According to the Vietnam Trade Office in Japan, total bilateral trade between Vietnam and Japan surpassed USD 50 billion in 2025, marking a significant milestone in Vietnam–Japan trade relations.

Data from the Department of Vietnam Customs show that total two-way trade between the two countries reached more than USD 51.43 billion in 2025, up 11.28% compared to 2024.
Vietnam’s exports to Japan reached USD 26.77 billion, an increase of 8.77%, while imports from Japan amounted to USD 24.68 billion, up 14.13% year on year. As a result, Vietnam posted a trade surplus of USD 2.09 billion with Japan in 2025.
Vietnam’s main exports to Japan in 2025 included textiles and garments; transport vehicles and parts; machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts; wood and wood products; mobile phones and components; computers, electronic products and components; footwear; seafood; coffee; fruits and vegetables; cashew nuts; and pepper.
Meanwhile, Vietnam imported from Japan computers, electronic products and components; machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts; iron and steel; fabrics; automotive components and parts; and seafood. Notably, the two largest import categories, computers and electronic components, and machinery and equipment, accounted for nearly 54% of Vietnam’s total imports from Japan.
Trade Counselor of Vietnam in Japan Ta Duc Minh said that Vietnam-Japan Vietnam–Japan trade relations remained strong in 2025, marking the first-time bilateral trade between the two countries exceeded USD 50 billion. He noted that this milestone reflects the steady and sustainable growth of economic cooperation between Vietnam and Japan amid global economic volatility.
