In response to the developments of Storm Narra, Hai Phong has proactively suspended ferry services and restricted vehicles from crossing bridges to ensure traffic safety in dangerous weather conditions.
In response to the developments of Narra, the 4th storm hitting Vietnam this year, the Hai Phong Department of Construction has asked localities and operators of ferry terminals, river-crossing passenger terminals and bridges to proactively monitor weather conditions and suspend operations when safety conditions are not met.
People’s Committees of communes, wards and special zones shall monitor and announce the suspension of operations at river-crossing passenger terminals under their management in accordance with their authority. The People’s Committee of Cat Hai Special Zone and Au Lac Quang Ninh Co., Ltd. shall monitor and announce the suspension of operations at Gia Luan Ferry Terminal, which connects Tuan Chau Island in Quang Ninh Province with Cat Hai Special Zone, in accordance with their authority.
Ferry terminal operators shall suspend services under adverse weather conditions that directly affect ferry operation safety or as directed by local authorities where the ferry terminals are located, until notice is given for operations to resume.
Giai Ferry, which crosses the Lai Vu river on Provincial Road 390E in Ha Nam and An Thanh communes, shall be suspended when the storm has winds of Force 5 or higher or when flood levels reach Alert Level 2 or higher.
Earlier, the Department of Construction announced the suspension of Dong Bai - Cai Vieng and Duong Ao ferries in accordance with the city Civil Defense Command's notice prohibiting vessels from going to sea, effective from 7 am on August 22.
Ferry operators shall securely moor vessels and properly manage and maintain equipment and vessels in accordance with safety regulations. They shall organize command duty at ferry terminals and be ready to mobilize personnel and ferries to participate in emergency response and search and rescue operations when requested by local authorities and competent agencies.
Operators of river bridges shall suspend vehicles from traveling across major bridges under adverse weather conditions that directly affect operational safety or as directed by local authorities, until notice is given for operations to resume.
