The increase in ferry frequency is expected to better meet travel demand, particularly during peak summer holiday in Cat Ba.

According to Bayview Cat Ba Co., Ltd., the operator, daily services will increase from 23 to 38 trips per day, covering the peak travel period from late April through the end of August 2026.

Departure intervals are generally around 20 minutes, but may extend to about 40 minutes depending on actual operating conditions.

The operator will use ferries with a capacity of 180 tons or more during peak hours to improve transport capacity for vehicles traveling to Cat Ba Island.

Smaller ferries with a capacity of under 100 tons will mainly operate in selected morning time slots when demand is still low. Compared with previous operations, reducing the number of smaller vessels while increasing larger ferries is expected to improve efficiency and reduce congestion at both terminals.

The ferry route currently operates daily from 5:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. During periods of higher demand, particularly in the peak summer season from May through August, operating hours may be extended to around 7:00 p.m., depending on passenger volumes and weather conditions.

The increase in frequency is expected to better meet travel demand from residents and tourists, particularly during weekends and the peak summer holiday in Cat Ba.
