Expanding a strategic transport corridor

The project to build a road linking the Bac Song Cam urban area with the VSIP Industrial Park route to Vu Yen Island stretches about 2.44 km and has a roadbed width of 36 meters. The project includes synchronized investment in drainage, power supply, lighting systems and bridges along the route.

The road is considered one of the key transport projects in Thuy Nguyen, helping complete infrastructure links between the city’s new political-administrative center and Vu Yen Island, where large-scale urban, service and tourism developments are taking shape.

In early May 2026, dozens of machines and construction equipment were operating continuously at the site, carrying out ground treatment, drainage installation, roadbed construction and bridge works.

Pham Hai Binh, the site manager, said contractors were taking advantage of favorable weather conditions to accelerate construction progress.

“We are mobilizing maximum manpower and equipment and increasing working shifts on several sections to make up for delays. Once the site is fully handed over, construction will become much more convenient,” Binh said.

According to relevant agencies, once completed, the route will shorten travel time between Hai Phong’s existing urban center and Vu Yen Island while improving connectivity between new urban areas north of the Cam River and the city’s main transport network.

Beyond its transport role, the project is also expected to create more room for urban, commercial and service development across the Thuy Nguyen area in the coming years.

To implement the project, authorities must acquire large areas of residential and agricultural land, as well as land associated with local religious sites in Cham Lam, Bai Cat and Sau Phien residential areas.

According to the Thuy Nguyen Ward People’s Committee, the project requires the acquisition of more than 105,400 square meters of land involving 140 households, two religious establishments and several organizations.

Authorities have largely completed inventories of affected land areas. For agricultural land, compensation plans have been approved for 48 households, of which 45 have received compensation and handed over more than 26,400 square meters of land for construction.

For residential land, compensation plans worth more than 101 billion dong have been approved for 58 households. So far, 48 households have received compensation, while 38 have handed over land, with many others dismantling structures to clear sites for the project.

Dao Thi Thuy, head of the Economy, Infrastructure and Urban Division of Thuy Nguyen Ward, said local authorities are continuing to coordinate with relevant agencies to conduct mobilization efforts with households.

Most residents support the project because of its importance to local urban and transport development, she said.

Alongside efforts to encourage residents to hand over land, Thuy Nguyen Ward is also focusing on resettlement issues, reviewing land origins and completing procedures in accordance with regulations.

Under Hai Phong’s urban development plan, the Bac Song Cam area and Vu Yen Island are envisioned as a new development center with synchronized and modern infrastructure.

The early completion of the route linking the administrative center with Vu Yen Island is expected not only to ease traffic pressure but also to attract investment and promote socio-economic development across northern Hai Phong.
