Turning aspirations into reality

At the Economics Faculty Scholarship Fund award ceremony for the 2025–2026 academic year, held on October 18, a total of 62 scholarships were presented to outstanding students.

The scholarships provide practical financial assistance while demonstrating logistics companies’ commitment to supporting education and helping improve the quality of human resources for the marine economy and logistics sectors in the port city.

Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Nguyen Thi Anh, a student in class KTN65DH, said: “For us, the scholarship is not only financial assistance that helps ease some of the difficulties we face in our studies and daily lives, but also a valuable source of encouragement. This support gives us greater confidence and motivation to continue striving in our studies, developing our skills and pursuing our dreams.”

For the 2025–2026 academic year, the fund ensured an open and transparent scholarship selection process. Of the 62 scholarship recipients, 15 were students from disadvantaged backgrounds who had excelled academically despite their circumstances, 40 had outstanding academic records, five had made significant contributions to community activities, and two had won prizes in academic and extracurricular competitions.

A journey of shared commitment

Over nine years of development, the Economics Faculty Scholarship Fund has become a bridge between the university and the business community, helping students gain access to knowledge and develop their careers. The fund has received sustained contributions from former lecturers, alumni of the Faculty of Marine Economics, and businesses in the maritime transport sector, notably Macstar Lines and Wan Hai Lines.

Cooperation between the university and businesses goes beyond scholarships and financial support. Companies also provide opportunities for students to take part in field visits, professional internships and preferential recruitment for those with outstanding academic and extracurricular achievements.

Demand for logistics professionals is continuing to grow. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Vietnam Logistics Report and a survey by the Vietnam Logistics Business Association (VLA), The country currently has more than 36,000 active logistics companies. By 2030, the sector is forecast to require around 2.2 million workers, including more than 200,000 with university degrees or higher qualifications.

In Hai Phong, the North’s largest economic corridor and seaport hub, demand for logistics workers is projected to reach 369,000 by 2030. However, the current labour supply meets only around 40–45% of actual demand. The gap between employers’ recruitment requirements and the practical capabilities of newly graduated students highlights the need for stronger links between educational institutions and businesses.

Assessing the significance of this cooperation, Associate Professor Nguyen Minh Duc, Vice Rector of Vietnam Maritime University, said the continued support over the past nine years from the Fund’s management board, Macstar Lines and local logistics companies had helped the university renew its teaching programs and improve the quality of practical training.

Through internships and job opportunities after graduation, students gain practical experience in the workplace and insights into global supply chains, helping bridge the gap between academic knowledge and employers’ requirements.

This also provides a foundation for Vietnam Maritime University to train skilled logistics professionals who can help develop Hai Phong into a national and international logistics hub.
