Amid the urban landscape, lakes, parks, flower gardens and tree lines not only provide Hai Phong with places to relax but also improve the environment and quality of life.

Green venues
Bach Dang Park in Hai Duong Ward is already filled with music at as early as 5 am. Beneath the shade of leafy trees, elderly people practice gentle exercises, others go for walks, and some fit in a workout before starting their day. The fresh air and spacious surroundings make the park a familiar gathering place for many residents.
Located in the center of Hai Duong Ward, Bach Dang Lake has a water surface area of more than 205,000 m2. Rows of trees, walking paths and open spaces surround the lake, making it a prominent landscape feature in the urban area.
The lake takes on a different character throughout the day. In the morning, the water is calm and the air is cool and fresh. On summer days, breezes from the lake help residents feel more comfortable. As afternoon approaches, sunlight reflecting on the water attracts people who come to enjoy the scenery and take photos. When the city lights come on, the lakeside paths become places to stroll and unwind after a day at work.

In central Hai Phong, a flower garden strip provides green space with landscape, historical and cultural value. Covering nearly 21 ha and stretching approximately 2.7 km from west to east, the area connects Tam Bac Lake, the City Exhibition and Fine Arts Center, the statue of female general Le Chan, the flower pavilion, the City Theater, the Bandstand and several flower gardens.
Formed and renovated through various historical periods, the central flower garden strip is one of the city’s important green spaces. Trees, water features and architectural landmarks create a distinctive landscape while providing public space amid busy streets. Residents can walk, exercise, rest or combine their visits with trips to cultural and historical attractions.
Green spaces near residential neighborhoods are also valuable, serving as familiar places for many families to play and relax.

From play areas for small children to exercise spaces for elderly people, public spaces close to home help promote healthy lifestyles, making it easier for people to stay active, unwind and strengthen family bonds without traveling far.
Improving quality of life
Alongside long-established green spaces, new parks and flower gardens are being developed to meet the needs for community activities in Hai Phong.

Nam Son Flower Garden, covering approximately 2.7 ha and costing more than VND 59 billion, has been opened to the public in An Duong Ward. The facility includes walking paths, exercise areas, ornamental greenery, a lighting system, gazebos and public restrooms. It is the fifth flower garden developed in the ward.
In An Hai Ward, three green parks, Dong Thai, Hong Thai and Cai Tat, have also been put into use, with total investment exceeding VND 47 billion. These facilities provide additional places for recreation and exercise, particularly in densely populated neighborhoods.
Investment in more parks and flower gardens reflects the growing importance of green space as an essential component of urban development. While the city center stands out for its scenery, historical significance and connections between attractions, parks near residential areas directly meet residents’ everyday needs.

In addition to lakes, flower gardens and tree-lined streets, the river system also contributes to the distinctive landscape of this port city. Making appropriate use of this advantage could create more public spaces along riverbanks, bringing residents closer to nature and providing additional destinations for visitors.
Every green space helps improve the environment and quality of life. Developing a green city means not only increasing the area covered by trees but also creating accessible, well-maintained public spaces that meet residents’ everyday needs.
