In celebration of National Day (September 2), Hai Phong has taken on a new look with many modern green spaces, offering residents a higher-quality living environment.
More spaces, more joy
In recent years, alongside investment in transport infrastructure and urban upgrading, Hai Phong has devoted substantial resources to developing a system of parks, flower gardens, greenery and public spaces. From densely populated residential areas to new urban ones, green spaces have gradually become a familiar part of urban life.
Nguyen Thi Binh in Gia Vien Ward regularly takes her two-year-old grandchild to the Mieu An Da flower garden, next to An Bien lake, for an afternoon outing. “Having a park near home gives adults a place to exercise and young children a place to play. My family comes here every afternoon, making life more enjoyable,” said Binh.
Public spaces also help make the city more attractive to visitors. Tran Minh Khang, a visitor from Ho Chi Minh City, said that if connected with streets and riverside and lakeside spaces, the parks would create additional highlights for Hai Phong.
Recently, many new facilities have been completed and put into use, contributing to the expansion of the city's urban green spaces. In An Duong Ward, the approximately 2.7-hectare Nam Son flower garden, the fifth one in the ward, has just been put into use with an investment of more than VND 59 billion.
Development goes hand in hand with preservation
More parks and flower gardens mean more green living spaces, but for these facilities to deliver lasting value, the city needs to pay simultaneous attention to investment, management, operation and connectivity. The goal is not merely to have more beautiful parks, but to establish a network of convenient and practical public spaces for residents.
Hai Phong has particular advantages in terms of rivers, water surfaces and its coastal location. According to Nguyen Hoang Linh, Deputy Director of the Department of Construction, as implementing its planning, the city will continue to prioritize the development of public spaces associated with riverside and coastal routes and new urban areas. Parks, squares, walking routes, playgrounds, and cultural and sports facilities are being planned in an integrated manner from the planning stage, with a view to forming a connected network rather than isolated facilities.
This direction is also consistent with the goal of building a green, civilized and modern coastal city. With its advantages in rivers, the sea and water surfaces, if planned in an integrated manner, riverside and coastal routes will not only improve the landscape but also create a distinctive identity and enhance the city's appeal to residents and visitors.
During these historic autumn days, people's joy comes not only from major projects but also from familiar changes in everyday life. One more park means one more gathering place; one more green space means one more living space. Development going hand in hand with preserving today's green spaces is an investment in the quality of life and the future appearance of Hai Phong.
