Many urban areas across Hai Phong are embracing the all-in-one model, meeting the needs for education, shopping, recreation and healthcare close to home. The trend is also in line with the orientation of modern, people-centered urban development.

All in one

When Nguyen Thi Mai Lan learned that an integrated school was about to break ground at Belhomes VSIP urban area in Thuy Nguyen Ward, she decided to buy a home there after months of searching. What convinced Lan’s family was the convenience of having schools close to home, parks for recreation and a shopping center just minutes away, meeting their long-term living needs.

While homebuyers once focused mainly on location, price and appreciation potential, the quality of the living environment has become an increasingly important factor. Green spaces, schools, healthcare facilities, shopping centers, sports facilities, walking paths and community spaces are now key indicators of an urban area's value.

The integrated urban development trend has already been adopted by many projects across the city. Ecopark Hai Duong urban area in Tan Hung Ward features an international school, swimming pools, parks, sports facilities and a shopping center. The Happy Home Trang Cat social housing project in Hai An Ward has been planned with 59 outdoor amenities, including three parks, four flower gardens, three schools, two office buildings, and low-rise residential blocks combined with shops, cafés, convenience stores and dining services.

Nguyen Van Ha, a resident of Happy Home Trang Cat, said a truly worth-living urban area is one that can meet most daily needs within the neighborhood, helping save time, ease traffic pressure and strengthen community ties.

Putting people first

The all-in-one model also reflects Hai Phong's vision in its adjusted master plan through 2050, with a vision to 2075.

Under the plan, the city will develop as a multi-center urban area with a modern, green and smart spatial structure. Alongside transport infrastructure, schools, healthcare facilities, parks, public squares, shopping centers and service facilities will be developed in a coordinated manner, making it easier for residents to access essential amenities close to where they live.

Nguyen Hoang Linh, Deputy Director of the city Department of Construction, said the city's guiding principle is to pursue people-centered urban development. Every new urban area should not only provide housing but also ensure long-term living conditions through well-developed social infrastructure, green spaces and essential public services.

The coordinated development of schools, healthcare facilities, parks, sports facilities and community spaces will help reduce travel demand, improve quality of life and enhance the long-term attractiveness and value of urban areas.

As Hai Phong works toward becoming a modern, smart and internationally competitive coastal city, people-centered planning will provide an important foundation for enhancing the value of its urban areas.
