Heavy rain exceeding 100 mm forecast for Quang Ninh, Hai Phong

Early on July 21, scattered showers and thunderstorms developed across the northeastern mountainous and midland regions, as well as Lao Cai and Quang Ninh, with rainfall exceeding 60 mm in some locations.

Forecasters said Quang Ninh and Hai Phong would continue to see scattered showers and thunderstorms through the morning, with rainfall generally ranging from 10 mm to 30 mm. Isolated areas could receive more than 100 mm.

Short bursts of intense rainfall may trigger flash flooding in urban areas, particularly in low-lying locations and places with poor drainage. In mountainous areas, authorities warned of flash floods along small rivers and streams, as well as landslides on steep slopes.

Thunderstorms could also bring lightning, hail and strong wind gusts, posing risks to homes, infrastructure, trees, agricultural production, transport and daily life.

At sea, scattered showers and thunderstorms are affecting the northern Gulf of Tonkin and the eastern waters of the central East Sea. Vessels operating in the northern Gulf of Tonkin and the eastern part of the central East Sea face risks from strong winds and rough seas.

Authorities urged residents to monitor weather forecasts, reinforce homes where necessary, clear drainage systems and avoid flooded areas or locations at risk of flash floods and landslides. Vessels at sea were advised to stay in communication, monitor weather conditions and seek shelter if necessary.
