On the afternoon of March 25, many folk games took place at the square of Hai Phong’s Cultural, Exhibition, and Cinema Center, drawing large crowds of residents and visitors.
As part of the traditional Female General Le Chan festival 2026, a National Intangible Cultural Heritage, these activities run from March 25 to 27 and feature many distinctive programs that highlight Hai Phong’s cultural identity.
From early afternoon on March 25, the central square buzzed with “human chess” matches. The “chess pieces,” dressed in traditional outfits, moved step‑by‑step according to the players’ moves, bringing to life a folk‑cultural pastime. Tense mid‑game positions, unexpected moves, and the guidance of the master players created a lively spectacle, attracting a large number of locals and visitors.
Beside human chess, the traditional Female General Le Chan Festival also features many special folk games such as tug‑of‑war, rope skipping, and ‘O an Quan’, creating a warm, community‑bonding festival atmosphere.
Beyond entertainment, these activities help express gratitude for the great contributions of Female General Le Chan, preserve and promote the locality’s intangible cultural heritage.
