Thanks to thorough preparation and effective preventive measures taken by relevant sectors and localities under the guidance of Central and municipal authorities, Typhoon Matmo did not cause any human casualties, according to the Hai Phong Department of Agriculture and Environment.

The city’s dyke, irrigation, and public works systems were also protected.

The work of calling fishing vessels, fishermen, aquaculture farmers, and tourists in coastal resort areas to take shelter was promptly and effectively carried out by relevant departments, localities, and units.

However, due to post-storm rain circulation from around noon on October 6, Hai Phong began to experience rainfall. Between 12 am and 2.30 pm, total precipitation reached about 75 mm. Widespread rainfall combined with high tidal levels in rivers caused localized flooding on some streets in Hong Bang, Hong An, Le Chan, An Bien, Ngo Quyen, Gia Vien, Hai An, and An Hai wards. Traffic remained normal without congestion.

To enhance drainage capacity, Hai Phong Drainage One Member Co., Ltd. promptly deployed flood response measures as soon as the rain began. By around 4.30 pm the same day, flooding in most areas of the city had significantly improved, with water levels receding and the number of flooded spots greatly reduced.
