Hai Phong proactively responds to Typhoon Matmo

The Hai Phong Civil Defense Command has requested close monitoring of the developments of Typhoon Matmo and notification of its location, direction, and movements in order to take proactive preventive measures.

At 1 pm on October 2, the center of Typhoon Matmo was located at about 15.1 degrees North latitude and 126.4 degrees East longitude, over the eastern waters of the Philippines, according to the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting. The strongest winds near the typhoon’s center reached level 8 (62 - 74 km/h), gusting to level 10. It was moving west-northwest at about 25 km/h.

In the next 72 - 120 hours, Typhoon Matmo is forecast to continue moving west-northwest at a speed of 15 - 20 km/h.

Due to the influence of the typhoon, from the afternoon of October 3, strong winds of level 6 - 7 will gradually develop in the eastern part of the northern East Sea, later increasing to level 8 - 9, with areas near the typhoon’s center reaching level 10 - 11, gusting to level 12. Waves will be 4 - 6 m high, and the sea will be very rough.

On October 4 - 5, the northern East Sea is likely to experience strong winds of level 11 - 12, gusting to level 15. Vessels operating in dangerous areas may be affected by thunderstorms, whirlwinds, strong winds, and high waves.

To proactively respond to Typhoon Matmo, the Hai Phong Civil Defense Command has requested local civil defense commands and relevant sectors, agencies, and units to closely monitor warnings, forecasts, and the developments of the typhoon.

Captains and owners of vessels operating at sea must be informed of the typhoon’s location, direction, and developments in order to take proactive preventive measures and adjust production plans appropriately to ensure the safety of people and property.

Communication must be maintained to promptly handle adverse situations. Forces and means must be ready to carry out rescue and relief operations when necessary.

Mass media agencies should strengthen dissemination of information about Typhoon Matmo to local authorities, vessel owners, and the public for proactive prevention and control.
