On the afternoon of September 24, Secretary of the Hai Phong Party Committee Le Tien Chau inspected preparations for Typhoon Ragasa, the 9th storm to hit Vietnam this year, at Mat Rong fishing port in Nam Trieu ward.

As reported by the ward People’s Committee, the locality has been focusing efforts on implementing tasks and measures for storm prevention. In recent days, the ward has coordinated with the Bach Dang Border Guard Control Station to conduct a headcount and promptly notify all 377 fishing vessels of the storm’s direction so they can proactively avoid danger.

By 4 pm on September 24, 175 vessels with more than 900 workers had anchored at local ports for shelter. The remaining vessels were urged to take refuge safely at other localities.

The ward has reviewed vulnerable locations where residents may need evacuation, prepared plans to mobilize and require households to relocate to safe places. 366 ha of aquaculture and nearly 400 ha of rice and vegetables have been secured, with proactive measures in place against the storm.

Appreciating the proactive storm preparedness efforts of the locality and relevant forces, Secretary of the city Party Committee Le Tien Chau required the city Border Guard Command to continue checking, calling vessels into safe shelters; reinforcing and securing moored vessels; and ensuring public order and safety during stormy days.

This is a strong storm with complicated developments, so localities and units must not be subjective or negligent, Chau noted, adding that authorities must regularly update information on the storm so people stay alert and take proactive measures.

He asked functional forces and local authorities to focus on supporting and relocating residents from vulnerable and dangerous areas to safe places, maintain 100% on-duty personnel, be ready with rescue forces, equipment, and supplies; and take measures to ensure the safety of dikes, houses, offices, and schools.
