Timely sharing

In April 2026, the homes of the families of Nguyen Van Chien (born in 1993) and Vu Xuan Nhat (born in 1981) in Kinh Mon Ward fell silent after workplace accidents claimed the lives of the two breadwinners. The devastating losses left their families facing immense hardship.

Sharing in their grief, a delegation from the Hai Phong Confederation of Labor, together with representatives of the Trade Unions of Kinh Mon Ward and Hoa Phat Hai Duong Steel JSC, visited the two families to offer condolences and support.

These were among many cases in which trade unions promptly stood by workers facing unexpected hardship. At many grassroots trade unions, caring for members extends beyond visits of encouragement to include welfare programs tailored to workers' practical needs.

On July 28, the Phu Lien Ward Trade Union signed the "Union Member and Worker Welfare Program" for the 2026 - 2027 period with Thien Duong Import-Export JSC. Under the agreement, the company donated 300 Famy water filter cartridges to union members facing difficult circumstances or making outstanding achievements; presented two RO alkaline water purifiers for trade union activities; and provided 20 gift packages for union members who had suffered workplace accidents, were battling serious illnesses or were in particularly difficult circumstances.

Union members will also enjoy a range of incentives when purchasing the company's products, including discounts on water purifiers, free periodic filter replacement, installation, warranty services and water quality testing. The total value of gifts provided under the agreement reached VND 121.6 million.

These activities demonstrate that grassroots trade unions are not only a bridge between employees and employers but also a source of both material and emotional support whenever union members encounter difficulties.

Workers' trust

These days, the "Trade Union Meal" program has been rolled out enthusiastically by trade unions across the city, with the participation of hundreds of enterprises and more than 200,000 union members and workers.

At Saint-Gobain Northern Vietnam Construction Materials Co., Ltd. in Nam Trieu Ward, the program was carefully organized in late July, bringing joy to employees.

Luu Trung Bo, Chairman of the company's Trade Union, said every employee received a meal worth VND 150,000, the highest in the city, compared with the company's regular meal cost of VND 45,000. According to Bo, the enhanced meal was not only an improvement in quality but also a gesture of appreciation from the company to the employees who have stood by the unit.

Alongside improving workers' well-being, trade unions have continued to affirm their role in representing and safeguarding the lawful rights and interests of employees. To date, 2,314 enterprises across the city have organized workers' conferences and workplace dialogue sessions, while 2,582 grassroots trade unions have participated in developing and implementing democracy regulations.

In the first six months of 2026, trade unions at all levels took part in negotiating and signing 130 new collective labor agreements, provided legal advice to more than 1,000 union members, and participated in numerous supervisory and consultative activities concerning labor-related policies and benefits.

Nguyen Thi Lan Anh, Vice President of the Hai Phong Confederation of Labor, said all activities carried out by grassroots trade unions are aimed at ensuring that union members and workers genuinely feel the companionship of the trade unions. Beyond material assistance, the organization also provides encouragement and emotional support, helping strengthen workers' trust in both trade unions and their employers. When workers' rights are protected, their hardships are shared, and their practical needs are addressed, they can confidently remain committed to their employers and contribute to the development of both their enterprises and the city.
