In recent years, cooperation, investment, and connection activities with South Korean enterprises and organizations in Hai Phong have brought about many practical results.
In recent years, Hai Phong has emerged as an attractive destination for South Korean investors thanks to its advantages of an international seaport, synchronous transport infrastructure, and an open investment environment.
Projects invested by South Korean businesses in the city have been assessed as operating effectively, gradually enhancing the technological and scientific content of local enterprises, increasing export turnover, creating jobs for around 50,000 people, and making significant contributions to the city’s budget.
Many social welfare activities
In addition to contributing to Hai Phong’s economic development, South Korean enterprises and organizations have actively participated in social welfare activities in the city.
Typical examples include building gratitude houses, partnering with the International General Hospital to provide health check-ups and treatment for workers, and supporting teaching equipment. LG Group has signed a cooperation agreement with Hai Phong University in the fields of training and recruitment.
With the support and assistance of South Korea, the movement to learn Korean in the city’s schools has grown stronger. To date, 40 schools with thousands of students have participated in Korean language learning and cultural exchanges, helping equip them with language skills for future opportunities.
Beyond businesses, several South Korean non-governmental organizations such as COPION, Happy Tree, and World Vision have actively carried out social welfare activities, care and protection of women and children, and education and training, some with large grant values.
For example, World Vision Korea, through World Vision Vietnam, funded the Ngo Quyen District Region Program with 2,270,000 USD in Phase 1 (2012 – 2017) and 1,210,000 USD in Phase 2 (2017 – 2022).
Towards sustainable cooperation
In the coming time, Hai Phong aims to attract more high-tech, environmentally friendly projects connected to the global value chain of Korean enterprises.
At the seminar themed “Opportunities and challenges for Vietnamese and Korean enterprises in Hai Phong,” Seok Myung Guk, Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Business in Hai Phong (KOCHAM HP), affirmed that Hai Phong is a stable and attractive investment destination for many FDI enterprises, including Korean businesses. This is evident in the fact that many Korean companies, after operating successfully in Hai Phong, have continued to introduce and connect other Korean enterprises to explore and invest in the city.
At the seminar, Standing Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong People’s Committee Le Anh Quan stressed that the city highly values the business community in general and Korean enterprises in particular for actively accompanying and making positive contributions to the city’s development over the past time.
In the future, the city will continue improving its investment and business environment, supporting enterprises in accessing land, credit, and human resources, and focusing on workforce training, especially high-quality labor.
Hai Phong will also support local and small- and medium-sized enterprises in building the capacity to cooperate with FDI companies, access advanced technology, and develop sustainable and effective partnerships with South Korean businesses.
