As part of the working program of a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to the RoK, on August 13, the Hai Phong delegation, headed by Secretary of the city Party Committee Le Tien Chau, worked with several major Korean corporations.

In the meeting with Doosan Enerbility, a company focused on developing environmentally friendly energy solutions, Secretary Le Tien Chau emphasized that Hai Phong is an industrial city with a high demand for energy, especially renewable energy.

The city welcomes Doosan’s investment in clean energy supply and cooperation with local enterprises, and hopes the group will survey wind power potential and study hydrogen and sustainable energy projects in industrial parks and economic zones of the city.

The city proposed that Doosan cooperate in establishing a research and development center for sustainable energy technology in Hai Phong, coordinate with local universities, and implement scholarship and training programs in the RoK.

Hai Phong also hopes Doosan will consider industrial symbiosis projects, applying advanced manufacturing technologies, energy-saving measures, and emission reduction solutions in line with the city’s goals for green industry and Net Zero.

In the meeting with Bumhan Group, the Hai Phong leader expressed his hope that Bumhan would expand investment into renewable energy and green hydrogen, and invited the group’s leaders to visit the city and attend major cultural events.

Bumhan representatives expressed interest in expanding cooperation in Hai Phong, focusing mainly on exports to Southeast Asia and development in shipbuilding, defense industry, chemicals, and LNG.

Currently, the BUMHAN HEAVY INDUSTRIES – NAM DINH VU project in the non-tariff and Nam Dinh Vu industrial park (zone 1), invested in by the group with a total capital of 35 million USD, is underway and is expected to install machinery and conduct trial operations in the second quarter of 2027. The project aims to manufacture non-standard steel products, install construction and industrial machinery, and provide technical consulting services.

During the meeting with Nexen Group, Secretary Le Tien Chau stressed that Hai Phong is implementing a two-tier government model with streamlined and efficient administrative procedures, serving both businesses and residents well. This is a favorable time for Nexen to consider investment, seizing opportunities from the city’s transport and logistics infrastructure development. The city leader suggested Nexen decide on an investment location soon and invited the group’s leaders to attend the upcoming Con Son – Kiep Bac Autumn Festival.

Nexen highly appreciated Hai Phong’s investment environment, is considering the city in the context of US tax policy’s impacts, and will look for solutions to promote cooperation.

With SKC Group, Secretary Le Tien Chau praised the group’s commitments and actions. The high-tech biodegradable materials plant Ecovance, invested in Hai Phong by SKC, is nearly complete and expected to begin trial operations by the end of this year. The project was implemented swiftly after the signing of the memorandum of understanding in June 2023, with the investment certificate granted in just three months.

The Secretary acknowledged SKC’s recent signing of a memorandum of understanding with the city at the Vietnam – Korea Business Forum, witnessed by leaders of both countries and major conglomerates, as a testament to the successful cooperation between the two sides.

He affirmed that SKC’s investment in Hai Phong is the right decision and that the city is committed to considering the success of enterprises as its own success.
