Tan Cang Hai Phong International Container Terminal (TC-HICT), the operator of Berths 1 and 2 at Lach Huyen Port, has received in-principle approval from the Ministry of Construction to accommodate partially loaded vessels of up to 176,000 DWT, announced the Hai Phong Maritime Administration.
TC-HICT, the first deep-water port in northern Vietnam, has been in operation since 2018. Its quay stretches 750 m, with 375 m allocated to each berth.
During the first seven months of 2026, the terminal handled more than 746,000 TEUs, matching the volume recorded during the same period in 2025.
TC-HICT operates 11 international shipping services with direct connections to Europe, the US East and West Coasts, North America, and several intra-Asia routes, enabling Vietnamese exports to reach major markets without transshipment while reducing transit time and logistics costs.

The port has also achieved a peak handling productivity of 190.09 moves per hour, meeting the increasingly demanding requirements of the world's leading shipping lines.
Since the beginning of 2026, TC-HICT has welcomed 114 vessel calls from ships exceeding 100,000 DWT. In July alone, the terminal successfully received OOCL Iris, a 165,509 DWT container ship with a capacity of 16,828 TEUs, the largest container vessel ever to call at the port.
The approval to receive partially loaded vessels of up to 176,000 DWT is expected to further enhance TC-HICT's operational capacity and strengthen maritime activities at Lach Huyen Port. It will also support the growing global trend toward deploying larger container ships on international shipping routes.
