Hai Phong calls 1,476 boats and vessels to safe shelter ahead of storm No. 5

Localities and relevant units in Hai Phong city have jointly checked and notified 1,609 vessels, 164 fish cages, and 3 watch huts about the developments of storm No. 5 to proactively take preventive measures.

According to a quick report from the Hai Phong Department of Agriculture and Environment, thanks to effective communication and proactive storm preparedness measures, by 3 pm on August 24, authorities had coordinated to check and inform 1,609 vessels (with 4,493 workers), 164 fish cages, and 3 watch huts about storm No. 5’s developments.

Of these, 1,476 boats and vessels (with 3,865 workers) anchored safely while 133 others remain at sea. Localities and relevant units are continuing to notify and urge these vessels to promptly return to shore for safe shelter.

By late afternoon on August 24, 1,983 tourists in Cat Ba and 580 visitors in Do Son had been moved to safe shelters.

Departments, agencies, localities, and units are focusing on promptly implementing directives from the Central and city governments on storm No. 5 response. The city Military Command and Police are strictly maintaining duty shifts, reviewing coordination plans, preparing forces and equipment, and standing ready to respond to any arising situations.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment is urging localities, agencies, and units to take measures to ensure the safety of dike systems and irrigation works in response to storm No. 5 and potential flooding.
