Amid the vibrant pace of production, female workers consistently demonstrate perseverance and creativity, shining in patriotic emulation movements and contributing to the overall achievements in the economic development of the port city of Hai Phong.

Female workers account for more than 50% of the total workforce of Hai Phong. In the eastern industrial parks, the figure reaches about 70%, most of whom are migrant workers aged 18–35. In the western service and public administration sector, women also dominate, making up 60–70% of the workforce.
Despite their large numbers, diverse fields of work, and high labor pressure, female workers, officials, and employees in Hai Phong continue to affirm their important role through their sense of responsibility, determination to improve themselves, and aspiration to contribute. Through patriotic emulation movements launched by trade unions, many outstanding female workers have grown and become bright examples on the production front.
One of these “fragrant flowers” is Ms. Pham Thi Anh, sewing line manager for glove production at Haivina Co., Ltd. (located in the Nam Sach Industrial Park, Ai Quoc Ward). After more than 17 years working on the sewing line, Ms. Anh has consistently upheld the principle that “quality comes first” in all professional activities. As a manager, she directly supervises sewing lines, oversees technical processes, and ensures products meet both quality standards and production schedules. With years of accumulated experience, she has helped reduce technical errors, improve product accuracy and consistency, and contribute significantly to the company’s sustainable development.
Beyond her professional expertise, Ms. Anh actively participates in building, maintaining, and improving the ISO 9001 quality management system. She also serves as a responsible and exemplary member of the grassroots trade union executive committee. She stays close to employees, listens to their concerns, and encourages union members to take part in emulation movements such as “Good Workers – Creative Workers” and “Good at Public Work – Good at Family Responsibilities.” Her dedication and perseverance have helped her consistently complete her duties with excellence, earning her the title of Outstanding City-level Skilled Worker in 2025.
If Ms. Anh represents discipline and reliability on the sewing line, Ms. Dao Thi Tham, an employee in the inspection department of IKO Thompson Vietnam Co., Ltd. at the Japan–Hai Phong Industrial Park, stands out for her innovative mindset and digital transformation initiatives in production. Responsible for production planning and SAP system management in the inspection department, Ms. Tham consistently ensures 100% completion of production plans on schedule while maintaining accurate and timely SAP data, helping sustain productivity and quality across production stages.
Drawing from her daily work experience, she improved the SAP registration process at several production stages, enabling workers to operate faster, shortening registration time, and increasing accuracy in tracking working hours and output. She also proposed improvements in inventory management methods, helping optimize material usage based on production plans, thereby saving costs and improving efficiency.
Notably, in 2024, Ms. Tham collaborated with technical teams to implement the project “Digitalizing Finished Product Inspection Checklists.” This initiative replaced manual record-keeping with electronic checklists on tablet devices. Data are automatically analyzed, reported, and stored within the system, helping the company reduce printing and storage costs while creating long-term benefits. The project was highly evaluated for its contribution to digital transformationand won Second Prize in the company’s improvement project competition.
In trade union activities, as an executive committee member, Ms. Tham is active and responsible, proactively organizing cultural and sports activities, expanding union membership, and promptly listening to employees’ concerns in order to propose support measures. In 2024, she received a Certificate of Merit for Outstanding Grassroots Trade Union Executive Committee Member.
In the irrigation sector, traditionally dominated by men, Ms. Pham Thi Ngoan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and General Director of Da Do Irrigation Works Exploitation One‑Member Co., Ltd., is a vivid example of the courage and intellect of modern female leaders. With over 20 years dedicated to the industry, she has held various positions and made her mark through scientific and technological initiatives applying automation, renewable energy, and digital mapping in irrigation infrastructure management.
Notable projects include the application of solar energy in operating irrigation sluice gates and the development of online maps for managing irrigation systems. These innovations have helped improve management efficiency, reduce manpower requirements, save costs, and ensure operational safety. For these contributions, Ms. Ngoan has twice received the Creative Labor Certificate from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, along with several technical innovation awards and the Le Chan Award. In 2025, she was honored as one of the ten female trade union members nationwide receiving the award “Dynamic, Creative, and Responsible Female Trade Union Member.” Ms. Ngoan represents the image of a female leader who dares to think, dares to act, and dedicates herself to community interests.
Although they work in different positions, these three outstanding female union members share the same spirit of responsibility and aspiration to contribute. Together, they vividly reflect the image of the female workforce of Hai Phongshining in the patriotic emulation movement.

Behind these outstanding examples is the close attention and guidance of trade union organizations at all levels in Hai Phong. In recent years, patriotic emulation movements have been widely implemented, closely associated with the political tasks of the trade union organization, the annual themes of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, and major national and municipal events. At the beginning of each year, the Hai Phong Confederation of Labor organizes conferences to review the workers’, civil servants’, and employees’ movement and launch new emulation campaigns, creating a vibrant competitive spirit throughout the system.
Remarkable results include dozens of collectives and hundreds of individuals receiving commendations at various levels, while thousands of initiatives, research projects, and technical improvement solutions have been effectively applied, generating significant socio-economic value. In particular, the movement “Good Workers – Creative Workers”has continued to be strengthened in connection with innovation and national digital transformation, helping promptly identify, nurture, and replicate exemplary models.
In 2025, the Hai Phong Confederation of Labor organized a conference honoring Outstanding Workers and Creative Workers of 2024, while also reviewing and awarding achievements in the “Green – Clean – Beautiful, Ensuring Occupational Safety and Hygiene” movement for the 2020–2025 period. At the event, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor awarded Creative Labor Certificates to 79 individuals; the People’s Committee of Hai Phong granted Certificates of Merit to 38 individuals; and the Hai Phong Confederation of Labor honored 16 collectives and 39 individuals with the title of Outstanding Workers. In addition, Emulation Flags and Certificates of Merit for the “Green – Clean – Beautiful, Ensuring Occupational Safety and Hygiene” campaign were presented to 36 collectives and 54 individuals.
In line with the requirement to reform trade union organizations toward a streamlined model, the Hai Phong Confederation of Labor has proactively reorganized its emulation groups to ensure objectivity and fairness in evaluation, while also implementing the “Socialist Grassroots Trade Union” model at selected pilot units, contributing to improving the quality of grassroots trade union activities.
It can be affirmed that patriotic emulation movements are not merely reflected in the number of commendations. They have truly become a driving force that encourages creative labor, nurturing confidence and the aspiration to contribute among female union members and workers. From this spirit, the city’s “steel roses” continue to quietly shine, helping create the internal strength and sustainable development image of the port city.
“With the coordinated involvement of trade unions at all levels and the support of businesses and authorities, we hope that efforts to care for female workers, civil servants, and employees in Hai Phong will become increasingly in-depth, practical, and effective. This will contribute to building a stronger female workforce capable of meeting the demands of accelerated industrialization, modernization, and international integration,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan Anh, Vice President of the Hai Phong Confederation of Labor.
