Electronic medical records are a core component of smart and digital hospitals.

All healthcare facilities in Vietnam will implement electronic medical records by 2030, under a plan approved by the Ministry of Health.
The ministry has issued a decision approving a nationwide plan to deploy electronic medical records at medical examination and treatment facilities for the 2026–2030 period.
Under the plan, by 2030, electronic medical records will be implemented without the use of paper records at 100% of healthcare facilities nationwide.
Electronic medical records are a key element of smart and digital hospitals, helping advance healthcare management, treatment and public health based on digital medical records and electronic health books.
The rollout will enable synchronized connectivity and lifecycle management of citizens’ health data across all healthcare facilities nationwide. It will also help simplify administrative procedures for patients seeking medical services.
The plan is part of a broader strategy to drive breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation in the healthcare sector, in line with Politburo Resolution 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024.
The implementation of the resolution in the health sector is expected to bring comprehensive and positive changes, improve the quality of healthcare services, and accelerate the development of a national health database, contributing to a more modern, efficient and people-friendly healthcare system.
The rollout of electronic medical records is expected to deliver practical results, improve productivity and service quality, and bring tangible benefits to patients, citizens and healthcare providers. It will also ensure information safety, cybersecurity and data protection in line with legal regulations.
