Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Xuan Sang has suggested that key tasks and solutions be effectively implemented to turn Vietnam Maritime University into a national key institution for the marine economy.
Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Xuan Sang attended and delivered a directive speech at the opening ceremony of the 2025–2026 academic year of Vietnam Maritime University on September 23.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Xuan Sang congratulated, acknowledged, and highly appreciated the achievements of the university in the past academic year, and extended his best wishes for the university to enter the new school year with proactiveness and determination to successfully accomplish all assigned tasks.
He emphasized that on September 5, 2025, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long signed Decision No. 1901/QD-TTg approving the project to develop Vietnam Maritime University into a national key institution for training and research in service of sustainable marine economic development until 2030, with a vision to 2045. This is not only a source of joy, honor, and pride but also a major mission and responsibility that the university must strive and be determined to accomplish in parallel with its annual tasks.
Assoc. Prof., Dr. Pham Xuan Duong, Rector of Vietnam Maritime University, said that this year, the university admitted nearly 5,400 new students. The entrance scores of many majors reached the top tier nationwide, and an increasing number of international students have come to study and conduct research at the university.
The institution has proactively applied technology and digital transformation in management and training, building a scientific, modern, advanced, practical, and effective environment for teaching, learning, and research.
The university’s scientists have carried out 171 research projects at different levels, with 94 papers published in ISI/Scopus-listed journals and other international ones. Its students completed 162 research projects, including 31 scientific publications, 19 physical models, and 28 software, website, or application solutions.
Thanks to these achievements, the university was awarded the title of Excellent Collective and the Excellent Emulation Flag by the Ministry of Construction, and many individuals received certificates of merit and emulation titles at ministerial and municipal levels.
On the occasion of the 80th National Day (September 2), the university was selected by the Ministry of Construction as an exemplary unit in the national patriotic emulation movement for the 2020 – 2025 period.
