Mr. Pham Hong Minh, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hai Phong Port Joint Stock Company, said that Hai Phong International Container Terminal Co., Ltd. (HTIT), a subsidiary of Hai Phong Port, and Tan Cang Hai Phong International Container Terminal Co., Ltd. (TC-HICT) have signed an agreement on coordinated vessel operations in cases where a vessel extends into the berth area of the adjacent terminal.
Under the agreement, the two parties will establish a coordination mechanism for situations in which a vessel operating at one terminal needs to use bollards or mooring areas managed by the neighboring terminal. The cooperation framework includes information sharing, review and approval of operational plans, vessel mooring arrangements, incident management, clarification of the responsibilities of relevant parties, as well as provisions on insurance, compensation, and the handling of issues arising during implementation.

The agreement places top priority on maritime safety, operational safety, and asset protection, while ensuring that each port maintains its operational independence.
Currently, Tan Cang Hai Phong International Container Terminal Co., Ltd. (TC-HICT) operates Berths 1 and 2, while Hai Phong International Container Terminal Co., Ltd. (HTIT) operates Berths 3 and 4 within the Lach Huyen port complex. Under the current design, each berth is 375 meters long, giving each terminal a total quay length of 750 meters.
Meanwhile, shipping lines calling at the deep-water Lach Huyen port area are increasingly deploying larger vessels, with capacities and lengths of up to 399 meters. Given the existing berth dimensions, neither terminal can simultaneously accommodate two such large vessels alongside its quay.
Therefore, the cooperation agreement allowing the two terminals to share berth infrastructure when handling large vessels is expected to help create a safer, more efficient, and more professional port operating environment. It will also enhance the operational capacity of each terminal and deliver greater value to customers, shipping lines, and business partners.
The cooperation is also expected to strengthen the competitiveness and standing of Hai Phong Port, contributing to the city's 2026 target of handling 122 million tonnes of cargo through the Hai Phong port system, including 9.1 million TEUs of container throughput.
