Unlike previous years, consumer markets rebounded swiftly after the Lunar New Year, with prices showing signs of stabilization. Market date shows that prices of vegetables, meat and seafood have edged down, while supplies remain ample to meet households’ post-Tet demand.

Traditional markets rebound

At traditional markets such as Hom – Duc Vien or Kim Lien, vendors selling pork, poultry and seafood reopened.

Nguyen Thu Loan, a trader at Hom – Duc Vien Market, said the number of buyers on the sixth day of the Lunar New Year was noticeably higher, driven by demand for offerings for the traditional ritual and small gatherings before workers return to work. Purchasing demand has largely focused on vegetables, fruit and fresh fish.

Notably, beef prices have fallen by VND10,000–20,000 per kilogram compared with the second and third days of the Tet holiday. Prices of herbs and aromatic vegetables have risen slightly due to stronger early-year demand. Overall, vegetable supplies remain stable as the harvest season coincides with favorable weather conditions.

Modern retailers ramp up operations

Besides traditional markets, major retail groups including Saigon Co.op, Central Retail, WinCommerce and Lotte Mart ramped up operations from the fourth day of the holiday. Shelves were fully restocked, accompanied by early-year promotional campaigns aimed at sustaining consumer confidence.

According to the Agency for Domestic Market Management and Development under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the early reopening of supermarkets and convenience stores helped restore supply chains and prevent shortages or price spikes following the extended holiday break.
