Impressive performance

In 2025, Tan Cang – Hai Phong International Container Terminal (TC-HICT) continues to serve as a strategic gateway for import and export in Northern Vietnam, directly connecting Vietnamese goods to America and Europe while reducing logistics costs and enhancing national competitiveness.

Lieutenant Colonel Doan Hai Tuan, Chairman of the Members’ Council of TC-HICT, said he was pleased that on October 17, the port handled its one-millionth TEU of 2025. This marks the fourth consecutive year TC-HICT has reached the one-million-TEU milestone, demonstrating its resilience, strong operational capacity, and continuously improving service quality.

As the newest terminal in the Lach Huyen port area, Hai Phong Port TIL International Terminal (HTIT), a member of Hai Phong Port JSC., has made a strong impression by successfully receiving the MSC KALINA vessel operated by MSC. The ship is 366.06 m long with a deadweight tonnage of 162,867 DWT, underscoring HTIT’s credibility, operational capability, and infrastructure readiness to accommodate mega container ships.

By the end of 2025, total cargo throughput at Hai Phong seaports is expected to exceed 115 million tons

Alongside the bustling Lach Huyen port area, Nam Dinh Vu, Dinh Vu, and Song Cam terminals have maintained strong growth momentum.

To enhance competitiveness, Nam Dinh Vu Port, under Gemadept Group, has recently welcomed its first ship at berth No.7, officially putting phase 3 of Nam Dinh Vu port cluster into operation. This expansion adds about 650,000 TEUs per year, bringing the total capacity to over 2 million TEUs annually. With a 1.5 km berth length, the port can handle up to seven feeder vessels simultaneously.

New growth momentum expected

In 2025, ports significantly improve ship-handling performance and operational productivity

Bui Nguyen Khoi, Director of the Hai Phong Maritime Administration, said that despite global shipping fluctuations in 2025 due to US tariff policies, Hai Phong’s seaport activities remain dynamic and resilient. In the first ten months of 2025, cargo throughput at Hai Phong’s seaports reached nearly 95 million tons, up more than 10% year-on-year.

Cargo volume is forecast to increase further in the last months of the year, reaching an estimated 115 million tons by year-end, 3 million tons higher than planned.

To boost competitiveness and operational efficiency, the Hai Phong Maritime Administration is working with the Vietnam Maritime Safety Corporation, pilots, and specialized port agencies to streamline administrative procedures under a “one-stop” mechanism.

With a length of 365.9 m, deadweight of 156,605 DWT, and capacity of 13,386 TEUs, COSCO PORTUGAL vessel carries important shipments from the Lach Huyen port area to California and Los Angeles on the US West Coast

Aiming for reductions in procedures, time, and costs for ship owners, agencies will intensify information technology applications in management and operation and effectively implement software like ship procedures, e-receipts, vessel tracking, berth allocation, and pilotage monitoring.

In terms of transport infrastructure, construction is accelerating on a road linking berths No.3 to No.6 in the Lach Huyen area. Asphalt paving of the first 880 m leading to the gate of Hateco Hai Phong International Container Terminal is expected to be completed by December, facilitating safe and smooth vehicle access to HTIT and HHIT ports.

At a meeting of the city Steering Committee for Economic and Industrial Zone Development on November 7, Secretary of the city Party Committee Le Tien Chau directed the steering committee, Hai Phong Economic Zone Authority, and relevant agencies to promptly complete procedures to start construction of Nam Do Son port and logistics center in December and accelerate investment in the Tien Lang port and logistics center project.

With continuous investment in seaports and seaward expansion, Hai Phong is asserting its role as a logistics gateway of Southeast Asia, capable of competing with major ports in Singapore, Hong Kong (China), and South Korea.
