Faced with climate change and increasingly extreme, unpredictable weather, the fisheries sector needs fundamental solutions to achieve sustainable, efficient, and long-term development.

Hai Phong has significant potential and advantages for fisheries development, with nearly 24,000 hectares for aquaculture; more than 19,000 hectares for freshwater farming and the remainder for marine and brackish water. The city’s aquaculture production reached 200,740 tonnes in 2025, a 21% increase compared with 2021. In recent years, Hai Phong’s fisheries industry has made positive strides by shifting from traditional intensive farming toward applying science and technology to improve productivity, quality, and ecological protection.
Many aquaculture facilities in Hai Phong have invested in automatic feeding systems that accurately control feed amounts, reduce waste, and limit environmental pollution. At the same time, synchronized water pumps and aeration systems have been installed to maintain dissolved oxygen levels during prolonged heat. Temperature, rainfall and environmental sensors, linked to smartphones, also enable farmers to monitor pond conditions quickly and respond promptly to abnormal developments.
To lay the groundwork for high-tech, disease-safe, and climate-resilient aquaculture, the agriculture sector will continue to review and propose plans for concentrated production zones, facilitating the application of scientific and technical advances in production. It will also promote the development of farming models that meet standards such as VietGAP, GlobalGAP to meet market and export requirements.
These measures are key solutions for Hai Phong’s fisheries to increase competitiveness, ensuring sustainable development, and effectively adapting to climate change.
