Meaningful gifts

As the National Day (September 2) approaches, many people with meritorious services to the country and policy beneficiary families in Hai Phong have received practical care from the city, local authorities and the community. The gifts and financial support vary in value, but all carry a spirit of gratitude and sharing, encouraging the families to continue improving their lives.

This National Day, Hai Phong is implementing an annual gift-giving policy under the city's new regulations. Some groups of people with meritorious services have received gifts worth VND 5.5 million per person. Alongside the general policy, local authorities and organizations are organizing numerous visits and care activities for policy beneficiary families, creating a warm and caring atmosphere.

Nguyen Van Tien, a wounded soldier and Agent Orange victim in Nhi Chieu Ward, still remembers the joy and warmth he felt when Youth Union members and veterans' association members came to his home to organize a "gratitude meal."

"The older we get, the more we cherish having people come to visit and talk with us. They are young but still remember us and come to families like ours. That is something we truly appreciate," said Tien.

Joining hands to spread the spirit

Economic development provides additional resources for Hai Phong to better implement social welfare policies. The city identifies caring for people with meritorious services to the country and policy beneficiary families as a regular task for the entire political system, with the goal that by 2030, 100% of people with meritorious services will have living standards equal to or higher than the average standard of the communities where they reside.

Notably, the city has reviewed and proposed support for 36 living Vietnamese Heroic Mothers who receive monthly preferential allowances under Vingroup's housing support program. Under the program, each living Vietnamese Heroic Mother and living Grade 1/4 wounded soldier eligible for support can choose to receive an apartment or VND 800 million, depending on their wishes and the results of the review.

Alongside the government, the business community is increasingly demonstrating its social responsibility. Recently, the Young Entrepreneurs Association of Nhi Chieu Ward raised nearly VND 500 million for the Gratitude Fund while actively supporting the construction of homes and presenting gifts to policy beneficiary families and people facing difficult circumstances.

In addition to material support, the city also focuses on protecting and improving people's health. In the first six months of 2026, 100% of communes, wards and special zones in the city organized free health checkups for residents. This is an important step in helping people, especially the elderly and policy beneficiaries, access healthcare services and have diseases detected and managed early at the grassroots level.
