Its collection of ancient statues reflects the Le-Nguyen Dynasties sculpting style from the ancient Xu Dong region, with realistic forms from overall structures to intricate details.

Historian Tang Ba Hoanh, former director of Hai Duong Provincial Museum describes Van Tue as a large-scale ancient pagoda with sturdy construction using traditional techniques, graceful architectural proportions, and standout carvings and decorations on its structural components.

Revolutionary landmark

Beyond its spiritual role, Van Tue Pagoda is linked to pivotal local revolutionary events.

In 1938, revolutionary Nguyen Kien Tranh disguised himself as a monk named Tue at Linh Ung Pagoda, where he served as the head monk. From this serene temple, he spread progressive ideas, mobilized locals to eradicate backward customs, and promoted production.

Starting from Van Tue pagoda, he connected with revolutionary bases in Binh Ha and Kim Can (now part of Ha Nam commune, Hai Phong city), gradually building the local revolutionary movement.

From this temple, historic decisions fueled revolutionary upsurges, contributing to the success of the August Revolution in the locality. During the resistance war against French colonialists, the pagoda hosted community activities, elections for National Assembly delegates in the first term, and illiteracy eradication classes.

Today, Van Tue Pagoda retains its solemn, antique grandeur, evoking the region's historical legacy. It serves not only as a spiritual hub for the community but also as an educational site fostering patriotism among younger generations.
