Cat Ba National Park is becoming an attractive destination for trekking, allowing visitors to explore its natural potential while contributing to protecting its unique ecosystems.
A healing experience
In recent years, Cat Ba National Park, a UNESCO-recognized World Biosphere Reserve, has attracted growing numbers of visitors seeking tranquility and a closer connection with nature.
Trekking routes through tropical forests on limestone mountains, offer visitors unique experiences that help restore both physical and mental well-being.
The nearly 9-kilometer forest trekking route is a challenging journey that takes visitors from pristine forests to coastal areas, passing through karst valleys and diverse vegetation.
Meanwhile, the approximately 3.25-kilometer Ngu Lam–Kim Giao route takes between 1.5 and 2 hours. The trail winds through the pristine Kim Giao forest before reaching Ngu Lam Peak, about 225 meters above sea level, where visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the national park, Lan Ha Bay and its distinctive limestone mountain ranges.
Some travel companies offer package tours combining trekking with cycling through the valley of the ancient Viet Hai Village, fish massage, kayaking and swimming in Lan Ha Bay. Tour prices are around VND 1 million per person, depending on the itinerary.
The growing appeal of ecotourism is prompting businesses to shift from mass exploitation toward the development of high-quality tourism products associated with environmental responsibility.
A representative of Lan Ha Xanh International Tourism Joint Stock Company in Hanoi said that slow and responsible tourism is emerging as a prominent trend in 2026.
Trekking tours are offered as comprehensive packages, including transportation, tour guides, drinking water, snacks, lunch at the ancient Viet Hai Village, entrance tickets, boat trips, bicycles or electric vehicles, and kayaking.
Conservation and sustainable development
Under the local development orientation, all ecotourism activities within special-use forest areas must strictly comply with regulations on nature conservation, protection of biological genetic resources, scientific research and the management of tourism projects in forest areas.
Management agencies, in coordination with forest rangers, are stepping up inspections and environmental impact assessments for infrastructure development projects. They are also promoting the “Leave No Trace” principle among visitors.
Alongside conservation efforts, the locality is focusing on linking local livelihoods with the community-based tourism value chain, particularly among residents of the ancient Viet Hai Village, through green accommodation services and clean agriculture.
When local residents become both beneficiaries of tourism and ‘guardians of the forest’, Cat Ba’s ecotourism gains a stronger foundation for sustainable development, further reinforcing its position as the ‘green gem’ of Hai Phong’s coastal region./.
