Innovation and digital transformation are becoming essential ‘keys’ for Hai Phong-based businesses to expand their markets amid an increasingly competitive business environment.
Indispensable “keys”
At the Hai Phong Investment Promotion Conference, held during the APEC Business Advisory Council’s 3rd Meeting (ABAC III) in Hai Phong city, international experts affirmed that small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play a vital role in the economic ecosystem in not only Vietnam but the whole world.
In today’s world, where sustainability, flexibility, and adaptability are highly valued, small but innovative business models have a great opportunity to thrive if they leverage technology and adopt an open mindset.
One example is Ha Long Export Seafood Processing JSC., based in East Hai Phong, which specializes in processing seafood, livestock, and poultry. The company has gone beyond the domestic market by partnering with international businesses to process and re-export high-value products made from imported raw materials.
It is also implementing digital solutions and tapping into e-commerce to expand its distribution channels, allowing products to reach consumers faster and more efficiently.
Meanwhile, Hoai Giang Import-Export JSC., based in West Hai Phong, which specializes in manufacturing and trading wooden furniture, initially focused only on the domestic market. However, thanks to connections through business associations and the startup community, the company has gradually expanded into regional markets.
“We used to think the international market was far out of reach. But after investing in product redesigns, adopting digital order management, applying QR codes for traceability, and digitizing our operations, we’ve received many orders from Laos, Thailand, and even the US,” said director Pham My Hoai.
Accelerating digital transformation
In recent years, digital transformation has become a critical factor for small businesses to make breakthroughs. Many Hai Phong-based enterprises in traditional sectors such as mechanics, food processing, and agriculture have boldly invested in production management systems and applied modern software to optimize operations, control quality, and meet international standards for traceability and food safety.
One emerging trend gaining attention is virtual reality (VR) technology. VR78 Digital Transformation Solutions Co., Ltd. (based in Ha Noi) is currently working with more than 10 businesses in Hai Phong to develop 3D interactive spaces for showcasing their products and services. “We help businesses offer customers immersive experiences of tourist destinations, furniture showrooms, hotels, and real estate without the need to visit in person. This is a major step forward that enhances the competitiveness of small businesses in the digital era,” said Tran Xuan Dung, the company’s director.
At the recent ABAC III meeting, State President Luong Cuong emphasized the importance of support from large enterprises and international organizations for SMEs, particularly in technology transfer, workforce training, and market linkages. He stressed the need to enable SMEs to integrate more deeply into global value chains, thereby contributing to inclusive growth and sustainable development in the region.
