Continuous launches and groundbreakings
Vu Huu Chien, General Director of Pha Rung Shipbuilding One Member Co., Ltd., said that on December 30, the company will deliver its third oil and chemical tanker, BS DAESAN, and lay the keel for vessel YN07 with a deadweight tonnage (DWT) of 13,000 for a South Korean partner. The two vessels are part of a series of 10 oil and chemical tankers to be built by the company for export to the South Korean market.
In 2025, Pha Rung Shipbuilding reached its targets three months ahead of its production and business plan. Besides the 10 oil and chemical tankers of 13,000 tons, the company also repaired 90 vessels, the highest number ever.
The company’s production value reached 846 billion VND, exceeding its plan by 25%. Revenue and other income totaled about 644 billion VND, up 27%. With a dense flow of newbuilding and repair orders, Pha Rung Shipbuilding is currently providing jobs for more than 700 engineers and workers of the company and more than 400 subcontracted workers. Average monthly income of workers at Pha Rung in 2025 reached 17.3 million VND/ person.
On December 24, Nam Trieu Shipbuilding One Member Co., Ltd. also made a strong impression by successfully launching a 65,000 DWT cargo ship. It is among the largest vessels ever built by Vietnamese engineers and workers.
Pham Quang Tuyen, General Director of Nam Trieu Shipbuilding One Member Co., Ltd., said this is the second vessel in a series of 65,000 DWT cargo ships built by the company. Nam Trieu is currently constructing a wide range of products, including cargo ships, chemical tankers, and cable-laying vessels for Dutch partners. With signed contracts, the company has work scheduled through 2029 and is “short of workers despite abundant orders.”
Moving ahead with new products

Shipbuilding enterprises in Hai Phong, like Damen Song Cam, Bach Dang, and Song Cam, are undergoing strong technological transformations to meet new orders for modern, high-value products.
Pham Hoai Chung, Chairman of the Members’ Council of Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, said the shift by Hai Phong shipbuilders toward successfully building specialized vessels and high value-added, modern ships is the right direction.
The recovery in production and business activities underscores the reputation and brand of Vietnam’s shipbuilding and maritime industry. Sustainable development of shipbuilding plays an important role in ensuring economic and energy security, promoting trade, and affirming Vietnam’s position on regional and global maritime maps.
Alongside the internal strength of shipbuilding enterprises, in 2026, the city will further support them by implementing a scheme to study the restoration and development of Hai Phong’s shipbuilding industry.
Earlier, within the framework of a high-level Vietnamese delegation’s working program in South Korea, a Hai Phong delegation led by Secretary of the city Party Committee Le Tien Chau had a working session with Hyundai Group to introduce the city’s potential and strengths, including shipbuilding.
Hyundai Group is reported to be seriously studying and ready to explore opportunities for cooperation and investment in developing shipbuilding products in Hai Phong.
These results are positive signals for production and business activities and job creation at the city’s shipbuilding enterprises after a prolonged downturn, while also confirming that the shipbuilding industry is entering a new cycle of prosperity.
