Hai Phong will have three hospitals designated as regional-level medical facilities including Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital, Hai Phong Maternity Hospital, and Hai Phong University of Medicine Hospital.
The Ministry of Health issued Decision No. 1658/QD-BYT approving adjustments to the health facility network plan for 2021–2030 with a vision to 2050.
Under the plan, Hai Phong will reinforce its role as one of the Red River Delta’s major medical hubs by assigning several regional-level medical facilities.

Together with Thanh Nhan and Saint Paul hospitals (Hanoi), Bac Ninh General Hospital No.1, and the Vietnam–Sweden Uong Bi Hospital, it will serve as a core center for advanced clinical services, specialist support and technical transfers to adjacent localities.
Hai Phong Maternity Hospital is designated a regional specialist hospital for obstetrics and pediatrics. Inclusion in the regional specialist network will facilitate the hospital to further investment in high-end procedures and help raise the standard of maternal and child health care.
Hai Phong University of Medicine Hospital is identified as one of the country’s key university hospitals. The facility will carry out clinical care alongside training of high-quality health personnel and scientific research, strengthening the professional capacity of the regional health system.
The Ministry of Health says creating a network of regional-level hospitals and health centers will improve access to high-quality care, ease pressure on central hospitals, and boost capacity to respond to medical emergencies, epidemics and disasters in the region.
