Chairman of the Hai Phong People's Council Le Van Hieu, together with the city delegation, solemnly paid deep respects to the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the national independence and freedom.
A delegation of the Hai Phong Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and the Fatherland Front Committee, led by Chairman of the city People's Council Le Van Hieu, visited Vi Xuyen National Martyrs’ Cemetery and the Memorial Temple for Heroic Martyrs on Hill 468 in Thanh Thuy commune, Tuyen Quang province on July 26 to offer incense and flowers in remembrance of the fallen heroes on the occasion of the 78th War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day (July 27, 1947 – 2025).
In a solemn and emotional atmosphere, the city delegation paid heartfelt tribute to the heroic martyrs who laid down their lives for the independence and freedom of the country.
Vi Xuyen National Martyrs’ Cemetery is the resting place of nearly 2,000 martyrs, including a collective grave of those who heroically died defending the northern border of the Fatherland during the 1979–1989 period.
At Vi Xuyen front, more than 4,000 officers and soldiers laid down their lives. Thousands of remains still lie scattered in deep ravines and rocky crevices, yet to be found and gathered, among them, 99 were from Hai Phong.
At Hill 468, located in the northernmost region of the country, 46 years ago, thousands of brave Vietnamese fought valiantly, many sacrificing their lives to defend every inch of the sacred national land. This occasion serves as a moment to honor and remember their immense contributions and to instill patriotism and national pride in future generations of Vietnamese.
Before the spirits of the heroic martyrs, the Hai Phong delegation vowed to uphold the city's revolutionary, heroic, and cultured traditions and were determined to turn Hai Phong into a thriving, prosperous city in the new era of national development and, at the same time, continue to effectively care for policy beneficiary families and those with meritorious service to the revolution, thereby contributing to ensuring social welfare.
