Ruoi (ragworm) from riverside areas in Hai Phong city have been well known for years. In early December 2025, reporters from Hai Phong Newspaper, Radio and Television recorded the atmosphere of ruoi harvest in Vinh Thuan commune.
Vinh Thuan - a peaceful riverside land along the Luoc and Thai Binh rivers - is blessed with fertile alluvial soil. It has long been known as one of Hai Phong’s prime sources of high-quality ruoi.From early morning, roads leading from the Luoc river dyke are filled with residents and traders purchasing ruoi harvested from riverside ponds.Collecting ruoi at ponds.The “gift of nature” harvest has become the main source of income for hundreds of residents in Vinh Thuan for many years.The commune currently has more than 200 households engaged in ruoi farming and harvesting, with a total area of 226 ha. This year’s ruoi is larger, plumper and more uniform, with fresh coloration, leading to higher prices than usual.Farmers in Vinh Thuan are pleased with nets heavy with ruoi.Though the work stretches from dawn to dusk, the heavy harvests remain a strong source of motivation for farmers.Ruoi is packed into boxes and sold for 180,000 – 250,000 VND per kilogram depending on the time and quality.Across the fields and ponds along the Luoc and Thai Binh rivers in Vinh Thuan, the ruoi harvest is lively and bustling.
