Many businesses in Hai Phong are supporting students in difficult circumstances by providing assistance, becoming sponsors and awarding scholarships.

Tran Van Bao, a former student of class 9A4 at Le Loi Junior High School, has a particularly difficult background. Orphaned at a young age, he was once abandoned and had to wander in search of a living.
He was taken in and cared for by the Hoa Phuong Social Work and Child Protection Center, which helped him obtain a birth certificate and created conditions for him to attend school. In the 2026-2027 school year, Bao took the entrance exam for Tran Phu Senior High School for the Gifted and was one of the co-valedictorians of the history gifted class.
Learning about his circumstances, in late June 2026, the Youth Union of Hai An Ward, in coordination with OCEAN EDU English Center in Gia Vien Ward, visited, encouraged and awarded him an IELTS scholarship worth nearly VND 12 million.
“This motivates me to study harder and not let down the people who care about me,” said Bao.
In early September 2026, Agribank Dong Hai Phong Branch awarded VND 300 million in scholarships to students of Vietnam Maritime University who achieved outstanding academic results.
For the 2026-2027 school year, the bank also provided more than VND 1.2 billion to schools, educational institutions and local study promotion funds across the city to award scholarships, invest in facilities and support educational activities.
Ho Thi Hong Tham, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of Agribank Dong Hai Phong Branch, said: “We see investment in education as investment in the future. Every scholarship, library or computer set we donate is intended to help give students better access to knowledge, provide them with greater motivation to study and move forward.”
Responsibility to the community
According to Pham Thi Phuong Thao, Chairwoman of the Phu Thai Commune Women’s Union, there are 89 orphaned children under 18 in the area, including 47 in difficult circumstances. Through mobilization efforts, 22 children have received sponsors to support their upbringing and care. Hoa Phat Hai Duong Group sponsors five children, while Bao Long Shoe Co., Ltd. and CHUNG JYE Vietnam Shoe Manufacturing Co., Ltd. each sponsor two.
“Enterprises do not just provide one-time support but sponsor children for many years. Monthly financial support gives disadvantaged children better conditions to attend school, while regular care and attention gives them additional motivation,” Thao said.
Hai Phong Thermal Power JSC has recently awarded 30 scholarships, totaling VND 30 million, to students in difficult circumstances in Bach Dang Ward and Nam Trieu Ward.
LG Display Vietnam Hai Phong Co., Ltd., a large-scale enterprise in Trang Due Industrial Park with more than 23,000 officials, experts and workers, has actively accompanied the city in social welfare activities for many years, particularly in supporting education.
Ha Jin Chul, Deputy General Director of LG Display Vietnam Hai Phong Co., Ltd., said that alongside production and business activities, the company sees development as going hand in hand with community responsibility. The company hopes that its educational support activities will give students better learning conditions and greater confidence to pursue their dreams. This is also a way for the company to demonstrate its responsibility and commitment to the local community.
According to Nguyen Van Nhang, Vice Chairman of the City Study Promotion Association, businesses’ contributions have practical significance for promoting learning and talent. “The longer and more regularly enterprises provide support, the more practical its impact becomes, helping families, schools and society create better conditions for students to overcome difficulties, continue their studies and grow,” said Nhang.
