The 2025 National Fencing Championship has opened at Hai Phong Gymnasium, No. 1 Bui Thi Xuan street, Le Thanh Nghi ward.
The Hai Phong Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, in coordination with the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, held the opening ceremony of the 2025 National Fencing Championship at the city Gymnasium, No. 1 Bui Thi Xuan street, Le Thanh Nghi ward on the afternoon of August 9.
Hai Phong’s hosting of the event shows that the city continues to give attention to the development of sports in general and fencing in particular. The championship will be an opportunity for teams to exchange experiences, gain more practice, and identify promising athletes to compete in major tournaments.
The 2025 National Fencing Championship is the biggest fencing tournament of the year in Vietnam. It is also the first time Hai Phong has hosted the event since its merger with Hai Duong province.
Before the merger, both localities had strong fencing teams with athletes who had achieved national and international success.
This year’s tournament brings together 180 strong fencers from eight delegations: host Hai Phong, Bac Ninh, the People's Public Security, Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh city, Quang Ninh, Nghe An, and Thanh Hoa, competing for 12 sets of medals.
After the opening ceremony, two finals took place: the women’s sabre individual final between Khanh Linh and Thu Hoai (both from Ha Noi), with Khanh Linh taking the gold medal; and the men’s épée individual final, where Phuoc Den claimed gold over his Ho Chi Minh city teammate Tien Nhat.
The 2025 National Fencing Championship runs from August 8 to 16. The organizers present awards immediately after each competition ends.
