Expanding international tourism markets

Alongside promotional campaigns, tourism marketing activities and cooperation with overseas partners, Do Son is working to attract visitors from a growing number of international markets.

According to the Do Son Ward People's Committee, KOSTA, a South Korean association representing around 20,000 small and medium-sized enterprises, began cooperating with the ward in early 2026 and has since established a representative office in Do Son.

KOSTA's involvement is expected to raise Do Son's international profile while creating opportunities for cooperation in workforce training, tourism product development and investment.

While expanding its reach in the South Korean market, Do Son is also introducing new tourism products to better meet the needs of both domestic and international visitors.

Pham Hoang Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Do Son Ward People's Committee, the traditional Do Son Buffalo Fighting Festival remains one of the area's signature attractions and a key part of its cultural identity.

Since its revival in 1990, the festival has undergone improvements in organization while preserving its traditional cultural values. The event offers international visitors an opportunity to explore unique aspects of Vietnam's folk culture.

Alongside its cultural and historical assets, Do Son's tourism infrastructure has undergone significant development in recent years.

One of the most notable projects is the Dragon Ocean International Tourist Area, developed by Van Huong Investment and Tourism JSC on a site covering more than 480 hectares.

The project is among Vietnam's largest land-reclamation tourism development and has been planned as an integrated complex featuring tourism, resort, entertainment and modern coastal urban facilities.

It has created a diverse tourism ecosystem that includes the 27-hole Dragon Golf Links international golf course, the five-star Dream Dragon Resort hotel, Dragon Beach artificial beach, a water park, a light park, a convention center and a range of large-scale entertainment facilities.

The modern infrastructure has improved service quality while creating favorable conditions for the development of high-end resort tourism, meetings and convention tourism, sports and year-round entertainment activities, targeting international visitors with high spending power.

Several new projects are also being developed in the area and are expected to provide additional experiences for visitors.

Building a four-season destination brand

To achieve its ambition of becoming an international tourism destination, experts say Do Son should continue to leverage its location, natural resources and Hai Phong's special development mechanisms.

Duong Duc Hung, Director of the Hai Phong Institute of Applied Science and Development, said the locality should accelerate the development of the night-time economy, entertainment complexes, duty-free shopping centers, pedestrian streets, cultural festivals and international-scale events.

He said priority should be given to further developing the high-end tourism ecosystem at the Dragon Ocean International Tourist Area, Hon Dau International Tourist Area and the Vung Huong area, creating integrated resort, entertainment, convention and marine sports complexes that meet international standards.

Do Son also benefits from convenient connections to Cat Bi International Airport, the expressway network, international seaports and the Hai Phong Free Trade Zone. These advantages lay an important foundation for expanding international visitor markets, particularly in Northeast Asia.

Nguyen Anh Tuan, Director of the Institute for Tourism Economics, said Do Son should position itself as a year-round coastal urban tourism hub.
