Inspiring creativity passion

This is the second year Luong The Vinh Senior High School in Hai Phong city has actively integrated STEM education into its curriculum, according to Principal Ho Thi Dinh.

The school has invested in three smart classrooms, one STEM classroom, 50 virtual reality headsets, 20 tablets, a digital library, a document camera, a 3D printer, and various supporting devices. STEM activities are conducted in diverse forms, including integrated STEM lessons, scientific and technical research, and career-oriented STEM experiences.

After two years, more than 700 students have shown greater initiative and confidence in developing and realizing their ideas, while improving teamwork, knowledge integration, creative problem-solving, communication, and critical thinking skills.

For teachers, STEM education brings innovation in teaching methods, strengthens subject and interdisciplinary expertise, and promotes the application of science, technology, and engineering in education.

The junior high level has also achieved positive results. Luong Khanh Thien Junior High School in Phu Lien ward was the first in the city to implement STEM education in 2018. Since then, the school has continuously achieved high recognition, including second prize at the 2021–2022 city-level STEM Festival, third prize at Robothon Vietnam 2024, and second prize at the AI contest “Future Classroom Creator” co-organized by FPT Corporation and the city Youth Union in the 2024–2025 academic year.

According to Pham Thi Thu Ha, Head of the Secondary Education Division of the Department of Education and Training, many high schools are strengthening STEM education through lesson-based topics, STEM clubs, and scientific research movements, creating learning excitement among students. Many research projects have won prizes in city- and national-level innovation contests.

At the beginning of the 2025–2026 academic year, the Hai Phong Department of Education and Training issued guidelines for high schools to implement STEM education in alignment with the 2018 General Education Program. The guidelines emphasize that STEM activities must be practical, effective, and suitable to conditions and the needs of students and their parents.

STEM education should be integrated across subjects, enabling students to apply knowledge from various fields, including science, technology, engineering, mathematics, etc., to solve real-world problems. Activities include lesson-based STEM teaching, experiential learning, and scientific and technical research, supplemented with other supporting programs.

According to Do Duy Hung, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, to enhance STEM education, schools should encourage teachers to be pioneers in creative lesson design, linking classroom learning with real-world applications and interdisciplinary knowledge.

Schools are also urged to participate actively in STEM events organized by the education and training sector, share management and implementation experiences, and promote hands-on activities in which students design and create products based on specific lessons.

In addition, schools and the department should focus on organizing school- and city-level STEM competitions to foster creativity; building an inter-school network of core STEM teachers to share lesson plans, teaching resources, and experiences; developing online learning platforms; and hosting communication programs and seminars to raise parents’ awareness of STEM’s benefits.

At the same time, attention should be paid to reviewing infrastructure and advising the city and local authorities to invest further in modern, well-equipped schools, moving toward a smart, modern, and integrated education system.
