Hai Phong’s education sector has set the goal of equipping all educational institutions with at least one smart classroom.

When technology supports lessons

In a biology lesson on the topic “Structure of eukaryotic cells,” teacher Vu Thanh Nghia and students of class 10A1 at Luong The Vinh High School in Hong Bang ward, Hai Phong city, conducted the class in a smart classroom.

There, students used tablets to answer questions via learning software and observed cell models through virtual reality glasses. Thanks to this, they could directly identify plant and animal cells, as well as vividly and clearly determine their shapes and internal components, helping the lesson that once seemed abstract become closer, more engaging, sparking interest in learning and making knowledge easier to remember.

At Dinh Tien Hoang Primary School, lessons in the smart classroom are always exciting for students. This is not only because of modern technological devices but also due to the integrated lighting system that automatically adjusts brightness and color temperature, helping to protect eyesight while creating multiple contexts for different activities within a single lesson.

Evaluating the effectiveness of digital teaching equipment and electronic libraries in smart classrooms, Ho Thi Dinh, Principal of Luong The Vinh High School, said this makes dry lessons that students struggle to imagine become vivid and intuitive. Experiments in physics, chemistry, and biology can be conducted safely and realistically, minimizing risks from direct contact with chemicals or animal dissections.

In history, geography, experiential, and career guidance subjects, students can use virtual reality glasses to visit historical sites, simulate, recreate, and interact with historical events and battles. In this environment, the smart classroom is no longer just a learning tool but a “gateway” connecting students to the vast digital knowledge repository.

An inevitable trend

Smart classrooms mark a step forward in digitizing teaching activities. Hai Phong currently has more than 1,600 educational institutions, but only about 100 smart classrooms. Although modest, this number reflects significant efforts by schools in their digital transformation journey.

Many schools without strong investment resources have chosen to invest in stages, focusing on core components or proactively training teachers before expanding infrastructure.

In the future, the city’s education sector aims for 100% of educational institutions to be equipped with at least one smart classroom. At the conference on tasks for the 2025 – 2026 academic year for secondary schools, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training Do Duy Hung emphasized that the 2018 general education program focuses on forming and developing essential competencies for students such as self-learning, communication, cooperation, problem-solving, and creativity. To achieve this goal, teachers must innovate teaching methods and formats. Promoting digital transformation, applying smart devices, and using artificial intelligence in management, teaching, and learning are becoming an inevitable trend.

To provide a comprehensive overview for school leaders across the city, the Department of Education and Training has organized seminars and field visits to effective smart classroom models so that schools can build specific plans and orientations, step by step investing in technology infrastructure and human resources. This creates an important shift from one-way knowledge transmission to comprehensive competency development for students, while also shaping a generation of creative citizens capable of adapting to the digital era and international integration.
