Once thought to have faded into obscurity, the traditional handicraft profession in Ha Dong village, Thuong Hong commune, Hai Phong city, is gradually being restored, with many products exported.
The handicraft profession in Ha Dong village flourished from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. During the nationwide resistance war against French colonial forces, the enemy established a military outpost a field away from the village in 1946, making production impossible.Determined to preserve his ancestors’ traditional craft, Pham Van Phong established the Ha Dong Handicraft and Trade Cooperative to revive the village’s traditional profession.Handicraft products are made from buffalo and cow horn. After the raw material is cut and shaped……it is molded and adjusted at high temperatures. Then it undergoes grinding to create decorative grain patterns……resulting in finely crafted, eye-catching handicraft products. The Ha Dong Handicraft and Trade Cooperative exports 30,000 – 50,000 products per year to the US, the UK, and France.
