With the active involvement of the Hai Phong Trade Union, the ‘Godmother-connecting love" program led by the City Women's Union has been scaled up into the 'Godfather, godmother' program.

Since 2021, the ‘Godmother-connecting love" program launched by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union has been widely implemented in Hai Phong, becoming a highlight in child protection and care efforts. Playing a core role, the City Women's Union has mobilized and connected social resources to sponsor nearly 2,000 orphans, with total funding exceeding 19 billion VND.
However, beside the love and care from the mothers, children also need the guidance of fathers’ role models of willpower, resilience, and responsibility to shape their future. Accordingly, in early March 2026, the City Women's Union and the City Federation of Labor signed a cooperation agreement to roll out the 'Godfather, godmother' program for the 2026-2031 period. This marks a significant milestone, showcasing the synchronized and responsible engagement of political-social organizations in supporting vulnerable children.

Over the years, Hai Phong's Trade Unions at all levels have carried out numerous practical activities for union members' and workers’ children. In 2025, the City Federation of Labor distributed 14,000 Mid-Autumn Festival gift sets to union members' and workers' children; held the "Reporting Achievements to Uncle Ho" program honoring 220 excellent students, create playground for children, …
In the coming time, the city trade unions will intensify propaganda among workers, employees, and businesses about the program's humanitarian significance; promote men's and fathers' roles in child care and education. Trade unions are surveying, compiling lists of orphans and those in special difficulties, children of union members and workers in industrial clusters, dormitories, … Annually, the city trade unions at all level always coordinate with schools and families to monitor academic and personal development, promptly recognizing and rewarding students with high achievements, provide psychological counseling, career orientation, and life skills training to help the children integrate confidently into society.
