The ‘80 days of action for the community’ campaign will feature a range of meaningful and practical humanitarian and social welfare activities in Hai Phong.
The Hai Phong Red Cross Society launched the “80 days of action for the community” campaign on September 17 in Ha Tay Commune to mark the 80th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Red Cross Society.
Delivering guidance at the event, Nguyen Duc Tuan, Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hai Phong, affirmed that alongside economic development, Hai Phong has always paid great attention and devoted substantial resources to social welfare, caring for the poor and vulnerable groups.
The “80 days of action for the community” emulation campaign carries profound political and social significance, as it not only celebrates the 80-year tradition of the Red Cross Society but also represents specific and practical actions to bring the spirit of humanity into everyday life, Tuan said.
To ensure the campaign delivers substantive results and creates broad-reaching changes and impact, the Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hai Phong asked authorities at all levels and sectors to shift from emergency relief to sustainable livelihood support in line with the direction of Party General Secretary and President To Lam.
Party committees and authorities of communes, wards and special zones must incorporate humanitarian work into their local socio-economic development targets, Tuan said, adding that assistance should not stop at simply giving gifts but must be linked to people's capacity to overcome difficulties on their own, restore their livelihoods and achieve long-term stability in their lives.
To broaden the reach of humanitarian work, the official asked Red Cross societies at all levels to promptly identify and honor outstanding examples of compassion and inspiring stories, thereby contributing to building a humanitarian ecosystem across the city.
At the program, the Hai Phong Red Cross Society presented a social welfare support package worth more than VND 300 million in total to Ha Tay Commune. This included a Red Cross house for the family of Hoang Thi La in An Liet 1 Village, livelihood support for 20 disadvantaged families, and gifts for 50 others.
Ha Tay Commune presented 30 gift packages to families and students in difficult circumstances and donated 25 bicycles to disadvantaged students who have overcome difficulties and made efforts to move forward in the locality.
During the “80 days of action for the community” campaign, Red Cross societies at all levels aim to support the construction of 130 Red Cross houses, provide livelihood support for at least 300 families, and award scholarships to at least 1,000 students. In addition, Red Cross societies at all levels will organize humanitarian activities, including healthcare, community-based first aid, voluntary blood donation, and regular and emergency assistance for people facing difficulties.
