Highly appreciating KIST’s research capacity, application experience, and effective technology transfer model, the Secretary affirmed that cooperation with KIST will help Hai Phong access core technologies, advanced knowledge management models, and South Korea’s experience in high-tech development, thereby turning the city’s vision of becoming a leading science and technology hub in the Northern key economic region of Vietnam into reality.

At the conference, Dr. Oh Sang Rok, President of KIST, affirmed the institute’s commitment to accompany Hai Phong in building an innovative ecosystem, promoting joint research, technology transfer, startup support, and human resource development. Through this partnership, both sides aim to apply scientific achievements to practical production, contributing to sustainable development, making Hai Phong a center of innovation in Vietnam, and positioning KIST as a strategic partner in Vietnam–South Korea science and technology cooperation.

Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong People’s Committee Hoang Minh Cuong said this new MoU expands and specifies the cooperation framework signed in 2024, outlining seven key areas of collaboration, with the KIST–HaiPhong Tech Hub as a strategic item that will lay the foundation for Hai Phong’s new growth model.

Notably, the establishment of the KIST–HaiPhong Tech Hub is considered central to the city’s strategy for attracting technology and knowledge. Hai Phong will promptly prepare mechanisms, personnel, and land resources and select a suitable site to ensure the project begins soon and the center can be operational by 2026, ready to receive and commercialize research outcomes from KIST and South Korean enterprises.

The signing of this MoU marks an important milestone in bilateral relations between Hai Phong and KIST, opening a new chapter for groundbreaking science and technology projects in the city.
