Hai Phong city has resolutely handled facilities polluting the environment, successfully preventing serious environmental incidents.
A delegation from the National Assembly, led by Standing Vice Chairman of the Economic and Financial Committee Le Quang Manh, had a working session in Hai Phong city on August 5 on the implementation of policies and laws on environmental protection since the 2020 Law on Environmental Protection came into effect.
At the working session, Standing Vice Chairman of the city People’s Committee Le Anh Quan, along with representatives from various departments of the city, clarified the city’s achievements in implementing the 2020 Law on Environmental Protection.
According to the overall assessment, since 2021, Hai Phong has allocated more than 2.69 trillion VND from the budget to environmental protection in the eastern part of the city alone.
The city’s spending on environmental protection from the budget surpassed 1% in accordance with regulations. Authorities have strictly dealt with polluting facilities, ensuring that no major environmental incidents occurred.
Air quality across the city, especially in high-density residential areas, urban zones, industrial parks, and clusters of manufacturing facilities, though considered at high risk for pollution, has shown marked improvement, according to both periodic and annual monitoring. Several key environmental indicators remain within permissible limits.
In recent years, the city has put into operation several key facilities such as Gia Minh solid waste treatment complex, Vinh Niem wastewater treatment plant, and Trang Minh wastewater treatment plant. These have helped address urban environmental issues and ensured a greener, cleaner, and safer living environment for residents.
Standing Vice Chairman of the Economic and Financial Committee Le Quang Manh urged Hai Phong to build on its achievements in implementing environmental policies and laws since the 2020 law came into force.
He emphasized the need to strengthen environmental monitoring, mobilize socialized resources, and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of State management in environmental protection.
Earlier on the same day, the delegation conducted field inspections at Nam Cau Kien industrial park, one of Hai Phong’s exemplary parks transitioning toward an eco-industrial model, and at Trang Cat solid waste treatment plant, which has a processing capacity of 200 tons of waste per day.
