Hai Phong businesses promote green production

There are more than 840 industrial projects in Hai Phong city, with a total investment of nearly 48 billion USD, annually consuming about 2.76 billion kWh of electricity and generating around 1.5 million tons of waste.

Therefore, greening the entire production process, from the use of renewable energy and energy-saving technologies, optimization of production and waste reduction to recycling and reuse, needs to be emphasized to reduce environmental impacts, cut costs and ensure sustainable development.

Hoang Tuan Anh, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Shinec JSC., the developer of Nam Cau Kien ecological industrial park, said the industrial park aims to reduce dust and emissions and maintain a high proportion of green and public land. The park applies digital platforms to manage carbon emissions, clean energy solutions, a large-capacity centralized wastewater treatment system, discharge-point surveillance cameras and an automated monitoring system connected to the Department of Agriculture and Environment.

Besides, many enterprises translate the spirit of green production into environmentally friendly products.

Raising workers’ awareness

Recognizing the issue, many enterprises are applying various models and approaches to take part in the green transition.

Vu Duc Huynh, Head of the Organization and Administration Department of Global Module Center JSC. in Hai Phong, said the enterprise prioritizes the use of green, clean and recyclable materials. It has invested in energy systems such as rooftop solar power and LED lighting in workshops, increased the use of natural light, and improved production processes to minimize emissions and waste.

The company has also strengthened waste control programs, classified solid, hazardous and ordinary waste for transfer to specialized treatment units, and enhanced communication and training for employees on environmental protection, green development and sustainable industrial development.

According to the city Department of Natural Resources and Environment, if Hai Phong achieves the target of reducing at least 43.5% of emissions compared with the usual scenario by 2030, the city can cut 3 – 5 million tons of CO₂ each year, equivalent to carbon credit values of 120 – 250 million USD annually, based on prices of 40 – 50 USD per ton of CO₂.

Under new regulations, this revenue will be fully allocated to the city budget and become a green financial resource driving local economic and environmental development.

Tran Thi Thu Thuy, Vice Chairwoman of the city Union of Science and Technology Associations, said that in the coming period, the association will strengthen the integration of “proper understanding of carbon” into knowledge dissemination programs, technical innovation contests or young intellectual forums. This will help spread the message that emission reduction is not only the responsibility of factories and employees but a necessary awareness of each individual and regular action of the community as a whole.
