Secretary of the Hai Phong Party Committee Le Tien Chau has expressed the city’s desire to cooperate with Belgium’s Antwerp-Bruges port in developing green port models.

Continuing the working program in Belgium, a Hai Phong delegation led by Secretary of the city Party Committee Le Tien Chau worked with Johan Klaps, Vice Mayor of Antwerp city and Chairman of Antwerp-Bruges port on the morning of December 4 (local time).
Assessing Antwerp-Bruges port’s experience in smart port operation, green transition, multimodal logistics and renewable energy, Secretary of the Hai Phong Party Committee Le Tien Chau said these are priority areas in Hai Phong’s new development phase.
Chau hoped Antwerp-Bruges port would share experience and provide technical support in seaport planning, smart port governance, logistics optimization and multimodal transport development.

Based on shared strengths and similarities, Hai Phong expressed its willingness to cooperate with Antwerp-Bruges port in developing green port models, reducing carbon emissions, transitioning energy systems, using green hydrogen, building clean fuel reception infrastructure and applying advanced environmental treatment technologies.
Welcoming Hai Phong’s proposal, Vice Mayor Johan Klaps said Belgium is ready to work with Hai Phong to promote cooperation in maritime and logistics human resource training, scientific research, port engineering and marine environmental management between universities and businesses of both sides.
Johan Klaps expressed his confidence that the cordial and open meeting would help deepen cooperation between Hai Phong and Antwerp, contributing to economic development for both sides and strengthening the Vietnam – Belgium relationship.

On the afternoon of the same day, Secretary of the Hai Phong Party Committee Le Tien Chau attended the Hai Phong – Antwerp Investment Promotion Conference 2025 themed “Exploring new-generation investment destinations in Hai Phong” in Antwerp city.
Bruno Jaspesrt, General Director of Deep C industrial park complex, said that following the conference, Hai Phong and Deep C could move into a new chapter by adding another industrial park in the city with a scale larger than the existing one.
Bruno emphasized that this is the first time in 10 years that Deep C is expanding its footprint, a clear signal of what the company aims to do in the near future, especially in the Northern region of Vietnam. He also said Hai Phong is one of the leading investment environments in Northern Vietnam.
Speaking at the conference, Secretary of the Hai Phong Party Committee Le Tien Chau reaffirmed the city’s principle that the success of enterprises is the success of the government, and the work of enterprises is the work of the city. This has been proven through Hai Phong’s consistent double-digit economic growth over the past 11 years, maintaining its position as the country’s third-largest economy.
Ait Daoud Nabille, Vice Mayor of Antwerp, expressed confidence that the meeting would help strengthen cooperation between Hai Phong and Antwerp, contributing to economic development in both localities and deepening the Vietnam – Belgium relationship.
The conference also featured a ceremony to present a memorandum of understanding on investment cooperation between Hai Phong leaders and representatives of Deep C industrial park complex.
