At FDI enterprises in Hai Phong, initiatives originating from production lines are generating annual benefits worth hundreds of billions of Vietnamese dong.
Innovation on production lines
Of the 119 innovations developed by Hai Phong workers and honored with the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor’s creative labor certificate in 2025, more than 70% came from FDI enterprises.
One notable example is the initiative “Improving the alternating product-stacking process to enhance production efficiency on the steel sheet cutting line” by Ngo Van Tai, Production Management Team Leader at Steel Flower Hai Phong Electronics and Machinery Co., Ltd. in Trang Due Industrial Park.
Tai said the solution increased productivity by 27%, from 5,500 to 7,000 steel sheets per shift. The company saves VND 918 million a year without additional investment in machinery or an increase in its workforce. The solution also improves equipment utilization, reduces downtime and optimizes production resources.
Beyond process improvements, many workers have applied digital technology to address bottlenecks in production. Tran Van Loc, Production Assistant at Yazaki Hai Phong Vietnam Co., Ltd. in Japan Hai Phong Industrial Park, developed a solution titled “Applying a real-time data monitoring system to optimize the inspection process at the Kensa-AC stage.”
The solution replaces estimation with data-based verification, eliminates invalid conditions, shortens inspection time and improves accuracy. Applied at three factories in Hai Phong, Thai Binh and Quang Ninh, it has helped reduce the workforce by 17 employees, generating savings of more than VND 1 billion a year.
Fostering innovation in FDI enterprises
Amid increasingly fierce competition, harnessing workers’ knowledge and creativity has become an important factor enabling many FDI enterprises in Hai Phong to improve their competitiveness and pursue sustainable development.
To make innovation initiatives more substantive, many enterprises have established systematic incentive mechanisms with the support of trade unions.
Youn Ui-sik, General Director of Steel Flower Hai Phong Electronics and Machinery Co., Ltd., a South Korean FDI enterprise, said the company’s trade union not only cares for workers’ well-being but also serves as a bridge between the enterprise and its employees in promoting innovation. Such practical support benefits workers while directly contributing to the company’s production and business performance.
Nguyen Anh Tuan, Chairman of the Hai Phong Confederation of Labor, stressed that trade unions at all levels in the city will continue coordinating with enterprises to build workplaces that encourage innovation and identify, honor and replicate valuable initiatives.
Each successfully implemented innovation not only brings economic benefits to enterprises but also helps improve workers’ incomes and standing, creating momentum for sustainable business development and contributing to the city’s growth.
