Bringing Vietnamese agricultural products to consumers

Hai Phong currently has more than 9,350 hectares of lychee cultivation, with an average annual harvest of between 55,000 and 60,000 tonnes, forming large-scale production areas. In 2026, the city's total lychee output is estimated at approximately 55,000 tonnes, including around 35,000 tonnes of early-season lychees and 20,000 tonnes of main-crop Thanh Ha lychees.

The communes of the former Thanh Ha District currently have about 3,530 hectares of lychee orchards, producing between 35,000 and 40,000 tonnes annually. Benefiting from favorable soil and climate conditions, along with cultivation processes that meet VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards, Thanh Ha lychees are renowned for their distinctive flavor, refreshing sweetness, and high nutritional value. The product is highly regarded by consumers and is recognized as one of Vietnam’s ten prestigious national-brand products, protected by a geographical indication certification.

On May 24, the first day Thanh Ha lychees were introduced at GO! Ha Long Supermarket in Quang Ninh Province, approximately one tonne of lychees was placed on shelves to meet customer demand.

According to Ms. Pham Viet Nu, Director of GO! Ha Long Supermarket, the lychees were displayed in a prominent area near the entrance, accompanied by creative and eye-catching decorations designed to attract shoppers. Visitors were also offered complimentary tastings of lychee-based products, including lychee tea, lychee jelly, and lychee cakes.

Many customers praised Thanh Ha lychees for their freshness, rich sweetness, and fragrant flavor, demonstrating the product’s strong sales potential within modern retail and supermarket systems.

Ms. Pham Thi Thuy, a resident of Cao Xanh Ward in Quang Ninh Province, said she was pleasantly surprised to find Thanh Ha lychees available at GO! Quang Ninh Supermarket during her shopping trip on May 24. After sampling the fruit, she praised its thick flesh, sweet flavor, fragrant aroma, and juicy texture. The lychees were being sold at a listed price of VND 39,000 per kilogram. According to Ms. Thuy, the product's clear origin, assured quality, and reasonable price gave her confidence in choosing it.

At AEON Mall Hai Phong – Le Chan, Thanh Ha lychees were introduced and sold to consumers from May 22 to 24. “In the past, if my family wanted to enjoy Thanh Ha lychees, we had to order them through acquaintances and have them shipped by coach. Now that the fruit is available in supermarkets, it comes with clear traceability, guaranteed freshness, and attractive packaging suitable for gifts, so I prefer buying it this way,” said Ms. Dang Thi Hoa, a resident of Residential Group No. 15, An Bien Ward, Hai Phong.

Expanding supply chain partnerships

Since the beginning of 2026, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has proactively coordinated with major distribution and export enterprises, including GO! Vietnam, AEON Top Value Vietnam, DRAGONBERRY Vietnam Co., Ltd., Ameii Vietnam Joint Stock Company, and Red Dragon Fruit Vietnam Co., Ltd., to plan lychee-growing areas and strengthen production-consumption linkages.

According to Mr. Duong Minh Quang, Deputy General Director of Saigon Co.op, supporting Thanh Ha lychee growers is part of the retailer’s long-term strategy to promote the consumption of Vietnamese agricultural products, enhance the visibility of high-quality Vietnamese goods, and create sustainable development opportunities for local economies.

From May 27 to June 10, Saigon Co.op is implementing a promotional campaign offering discounts of up to 20% on Thanh Ha lychees to stimulate consumer demand and make the local specialty more accessible to people nationwide during the summer season. The retailer is also organizing supply-demand connection conferences between its retail network and businesses, cooperatives, and suppliers in Hai Phong to expand long-term cooperation opportunities across various product categories.

Under the plan, 300 tonnes of Thanh Ha lychees will be distributed throughout the harvest season via the Saigon Co.op retail network nationwide. Many sales outlets are also expanding promotional activities for Hai Phong specialties, offering product tastings, introducing outstanding OCOP products, and sharing stories about the growing regions, thereby enhancing consumer experiences while promoting Vietnamese agricultural products.

In addition to expanding partnerships and market channels, ensuring product quality remains a key priority. As one of the suppliers of Thanh Ha lychees, Mr. Pham Cong Toi, Director of Thanh Ha Safe Fruit and Vegetable One-Member Co., Ltd., affirmed the company's commitment to maintaining product quality, stabilizing prices, and ensuring a safe and continuous supply chain to meet the demands of supermarket systems as well as domestic and international consumers.

The company also expressed its desire to receive support in bringing Thanh Ha lychees onto e-commerce platforms, thereby expanding market reach and making the product more accessible to a wider range of customers.

According to Ms. Luong Thi Kiem, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the department has recently strengthened cooperation with relevant authorities in neighboring provinces and cities to organize promotional activities and introduce Thanh Ha lychees through supermarket networks. The department remains committed to creating favorable conditions for businesses, distributors, and traders to visit production areas, conduct market surveys, and purchase lychees directly from local growers.
