The Ancestral Commemoration Ceremony of Xam singing in Hai Phong is held solemnly, combining incense offerings, performances, and cultural exchanges.

On the morning of April 9, at Dao Gia Vien in Du Le Commune (Hai Phong), the Hai Phong Xam Singing Club (under the City Center for Culture, Cinema and Exhibition) and the Hai Thanh Xam Singing Club (under the City Folk Arts Association) jointly organized the 2026 Ancestral Commemoration Ceremony of traditional Vietnamese Xam singing. Starting from 9:00 AM, the program featured incense offerings, ritual singing in honor of the ancestors, and Xam singing exchanges. The ceremonial part was conducted solemnly in accordance with traditional rituals to pay tribute to the founders of the craft and generations of predecessors who have preserved and passed down the art of Xam singing.
After the ceremony, artisans, performers, and Xam singing enthusiasts from various localities gathered to exchange, perform, and share their experiences.
Artisan Dao Bach Linh, head of Hai Phong’s Xam mat, delivered a speech reviewing the activities and achievements over the past year.
The Ancestral Commemoration Ceremony is not only an occasion for gratitude but also a space for heritage practitioners to meet, pass on skills and professional principles, thereby helping sustain the vitality of Xam singing in contemporary life.
Xam singing is a traditional folk music form popular in the Northern Delta and midland regions of Vietnam, characterized by its distinctive folk performance style within the country’s musical heritage. The Ancestral Commemoration Ceremony of the Xam singing craft is held annually on the 22nd day of the 2nd and 8th lunar months, reflecting the moral principle of “gratitude to one’s roots,” while also raising community awareness about preserving and promoting the value of intangible cultural heritage.
