The Voi (Elephant) Mountain Traditional Festival – Spring 2026 takes place from the 11th to the 13th day of the first lunar month of the Year of the Horse, featuring a variety of distinctive rituals as well as cultural and sporting activities.

On the evening of February 27, at the Voi Mountain Historical and Scenic Site, the People’s Committees of An Lao and An Truong communes jointly and solemnly organized the opening ceremony of the Voi Mountain Traditional Festival – Spring 2026.
Attending the event was Mr. Le Tien Chau, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Hai Phong Party Committee, and Head of the Hai Phong National Assembly Delegation.
Also present were members of the City Party Standing Committee, including Mr. Le Anh Quan, Standing Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee; Mr. Nguyen Quang Phuc, Head of the City Party Committee's Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department; Mr. Nguyen Dinh Chuyen, Head of the City Party Committee's Internal Affairs Department; Mr. Pham Van Thep, Head of the Hai Phong Economic Zone Authority; along with Vice Chairpersons of the People’s Council and People’s Committee, representatives of local departments and agencies, and a large number of residents and visitors from across the country.

Voi Mountain was recognized by the State as a National Historical Site in 1962. Beyond its historical significance, Voi Mountain is also a renowned scenic attraction, featuring spectacular natural landscapes, a system of caves, and ancient temples and pagodas, forming a distinctive cultural and spiritual complex of Hai Phong.
Over many years of organization, the Voi MountainTraditional Festival has become an important cultural event, contributing to the education of patriotic traditions and meeting the public’s spiritual and springtime festive needs.

This year, the Voi Mountain Traditional Festival – Spring 2026 is being organized in the context of implementing the two-tier local government model, featuring several new approaches in its organization. Over the course of three days, from February 27 to March 1, 2026 (the 11th to the 13th days of the first lunar month of the Year of the Horse), visitors can take part in traditional folk games of the locality and enjoy cultural and artistic performances imbued with national identity, presented by artists and performers from the Hai Phong Traditional Theatre.
The festival also includes a variety of lively sports activities such as a women’s tug-of-war competition, an expanded men’s volleyball tournament, and human chess matches.
In addition, this year’s festival features camping activities and a bonfire night, along with a cultural exchange performance program among participating camping units and military units stationed in the commune.

Throughout the long history of national resistance wars, thanks to its strategic location — advantageous for attack, defense, and troop stationing — Voi Mountain was regarded as a natural fortress protecting the Port City. The relics and caves within the Voi Mountain complex are closely associated with major historical events of Hai Phong in the struggle to safeguard the nation and defend its independence and freedom.
Voi Mountain is deeply connected with the tradition of resistance and the fight for national independence of the An Lao guerrillas during the war against French colonialism.
The site is also home to Thanh Uy Cave, where the City Party Committee convened its second congress in 1968, and which served as a working base for the municipal leadership and the An Lao District Party Committee during the years when the U.S. escalated its bombing of northern Vietnam.

With its great potential and significant historical and cultural values, the project to preserve and develop the Voi Mountain Historical Site has received investment and attention from the city’s People’s Committee.
In 2008, the Temple dedicated to General Le Chan and Long Hoa Pagoda, located within the Voi Mountain complex, were simultaneously commenced alongside the Temple of Scholar Tran Tat Van and the Temple of Dual First Laureate (Hoang Giap) Le Khac Can. These sites have since attracted large numbers of visitors from across the country, becoming one of the key stops on Hai Phong’s rural eco-cultural tourism route.
