The historic flower pavilions along the city’s central urban axis have become a popular check-in destination, where residents capture memorable moments ahead of the 2026 Lunar New Year.

Unique architectural design
Completed in 1944, the flower pavilions were designed in the style of traditional northern Vietnamese communal houses, featuring a distinctive structure supported by four large ironwood pillars. The complex consists of five adjoining pavilions, each covering nearly 20 square meters.
Originally built as venues for selling flowers during festivals and cultural performances at the City Theater, the pavilions’ strong Asian architectural character, set beside the Western-style City Theater, creates a harmonious blend of Eastern and Western cultural influences. Over the decades, the flower pavilions have remained a popular attraction for both domestic and international visitors to Hai Phong.
For more than 80 years, despite numerous historical changes, the structure has undergone several rounds of restoration. Hai Phong is among the few cities that has maintained a central green corridor spanning nearly 21 hectares. The corridor features a series of landmarks of historical, cultural, and architectural significance, including the flower pavilions. Preserving these historic structures not only creates appealing public spaces for residents and visitors but also enhances the city’s image and tourism appeal.

Highlight of the central axis
During the 2026 Lunar New Year celebrations, the central area is decorated with tens of thousands of flowering plants, including peach blossoms, kumquat trees, chrysanthemums, dahlias, sunflowers... The five flower pavilions look vibrant, making one of the city’s most festive highlights.
In the days leading up to Tet, scenes of elderly women, mothers, and young families gathering around this historic architectural landmark create a lively and colorful springtime atmosphere. The city’s flower pavilions have truly become a scenic highlight of the central axis, where visitors can enjoy the fragrance and colors of spring while experiencing the vibrant rhythm of a city undergoing dynamic renewal and development.
